The specs say 11 gpm on the M7040, is that at full RPM's? Seems like it would put out more than that?
Not a big deal either way, but I'm going to get a winch and it runs best at 15 GPM.
I know, too much of a difference, just curious

I may be wrong but I think the GPM rating is at PTO speed, which is usually a little under full RPM. So at wide open, you may see a tad more than the 11gpm.

Due to recent problem I know my M85 puts out 15 gpm at full throttle. Yours should be about the same.

M7040 is rated at 11 GPM
M8540 is rated at 17 GPM

E/S, you need to get your tractor looked at again. :(

budcampo, your going to be 35+ percent short on what there asking for. Seems like it would be too much of a difference to me to be happy with the performance of the winch.

IF I am correct that the GPM is at PTO RPM, you should come close to that 15GPM at full throttle. PTO is typically about 80% of Max.

And either way, I wonder what they mean by "runs best at 15gpm"

GPM will only affect speed, NOT power. so if you can handle it being about 35% slower, you will be happy. The system PSI your tractor runs will determine the force.

I know people that have back hoes and the hoes are rated for, lets say 7-10 GPM. Well the guys with the 7GPM tractors are usually not happy with the speed of the hoe, yes it still has the same power, just takes forever to get anything done. My thinking is that about anything hydraulically driven is the same way, you don't really want to be on the low end of the scale and expect to be a happy camper.

Just relaying stuff that I have read here over the years. ;)

I can see that with a hoe. Where speed is more of a factor IMO.

But winches aren't know for speed either. They are supposed to be slow. This will jst be a little slower. I dont think it will be an issue. But this is just my opinion.

I agree, may not be a big deal, but there's slow and then there's turtle slow. Where he may be dragging at 100 feet per ???, Now he would be dragging at 65 feet per ??? That's a huge difference if you are doing it more than once.

Doesn't matter much for us, but it could for budcampo, I think that he uses his tractor to make a living and time is money.
