I think I asked this months ago but don't remember getting a response one way or another. When my L35 was brand new I would smell hydraulic oil (no leaks). Seemed to go away, then after I changed it I am smelling it again. No leaks from anywhere. It has the GST trans. Seems like the BX2200 smelled too but haven't pried it out of the wife's hands for awhile. The only time I ever smelled fluid in my Ford NH was if I had a good leak.

Anybody else smell anything?

Maybe I'm smelling something else, as I don't even smell it that strong when I'm carrying a oil pan full of it, but that's what it smells like.

del,
I also get that smell from my L35. I just changed my hydraulic/transmission fluid at 107 hours and have not noticed a difference. I do not get the smell very often, however, it seems to appear only when operating the backhoe. It must be the odors being omitted out the breather as a result of the super UDT formulation. I have not noticed that smell from my BX2200. It would be interesting if we got that smell using AMSOIL. Next time I change my L35 hydraulic oil, I am planning to use AMSOIL. Would do you think?

Jon, I recently changed the hydraulic fluid in my Kubota 4850 from the original oil which was Kubotas UD I assume, to Amsoil. There was no smell to speak of with the old fluid and my reason for changing it had more to do with the lack of adequate warm up we ever gave the tractor as recomended by the sticker on the tractor itself of 10 minutes for the hydraulic fluid. I figured the flowability of the sysnthetic would be better on those cold winter mornings in the 30's we sometimes have here in Northern California. I have noticed no smell with the Amsoil either, but then I can't say I've noticed any other differences either, I just hope its doing as good of job as what was in there. While it is pricier then the stock stuff, I only needed 15 gallons which was about $240.00. Rat...

Yes, have had it on both my 2710's......interested in what it is. Most prominent at start-up, always thought it was a vent or something.

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A HYDRO-SMELL FROM MY 2710 SINCE NEW. (I ALWAYS THOUGHT OF IT AS A NEW TRACTOR SMELL)
THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A LEAK AND HAD REMAINED SINCE CHANGING THE FLUIDS. I WOULD ONLY GUESS IT'S FROM A VENT.

Del,

On my B21 for the first 50 hours I noticed no smell of consequence. At the 50 hour change (super UDT) I now have a hydraulic oil smell. I don't know what oil was in the tractor initially, UDT or super. Checked everywhere for leaks, none found and no fluid loss anywhere. Perhaps the super stuff has a super smell/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Del and others,

I actually after just owning my L35 for about 1 month 6hrs running time but 900 hrs total was using the backhoe to chew some more hill side an make it more grade friendly when I too smelled the hydraulic smell and didn't notice any leaks. When I was just moving soil(mud) at first didn't smell a thing then backhoe work and it appeared. Can't say that it's that strong but can tell it's hyd oil odor. Would like to see what the Kubota Mech's and Dealer's say about this one. Haven't mentioned this becuase I wasn't sure if I stilled too much when changing the hydrauilic oil a couplel hrs ago.

Question- does anyone have the blue prints (drawings) on their cutting edge for the L35's. Haven't price one yet but was thinking about fabricating it myself if I could. But would also like it to look original too.

Just thought I would bring this up again to see if anyone new will have any thoughts here./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Darin, other than the fact that your sitting on top of 10 gallons of hyd. fluid I can't really comment. I smell it all day/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif so I would'nt notice the difference.

That sounds better than having something wrong thats for sure. Thanks again. I guess maybe I should just run the dang thing and quite looking for trouble. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
