Thought I would share this as most of my repairs are not this easy.
I've had an oil leak in the PTO zone for quite a long time and have numerous drip pans (mostly for the repairs I need to do on the backhoe). Last year when I changed the oil, I replaced the PTO seal. That seemed to reduce the leaking but the leak continued. It was hard to determine the location of the leak as I would wipe it all dry and there would be no visible leaking but the next morning, there would be oil accumulating below the PTO.
Turns out, the oil was not coming from the PTO but above the PTO is a circular hole in the transmission block (the upper half of this hole is obscured by the 3-point top link mount which is bolted to the transmission). This hole has a plug in it which was painted over at the factory. The hole is below the oil level and oil was seeping out past the bottom of the plug and running down past the PTO.
I got some paper towels ready and a blow dryer. I wiped the zone dry and using my fingernail and a paper towel, wiped the seam dry around the plug. I quickly applied a big bead of Permatex Ultra Black around the lower seam of the plug (upper part of the plug seam was not accessible) and started it drying with the blow dryer. I let it dry overnight and it hasn't leaked since. The Ultra Black is super tough and very difficult to get off. (Also repaired the wifes muck boots with it).
