My Massey has a sight glass. Great theory lousy in practice. Ya just can稚 tell if it痴 under or overfilled. Do they make dome sort of visibility dye for hydraulic oil ? Thanks

My local JD dealer stocks it. I've never checked at my local Farm Store? A Google search will give you many options as well.

I prefer a sight glass.

My little JD has one that is easily seen on the back of the tractor. I glance at it every time I walk past. Would I stop and pull a dipstick every time I walk past?

On the 2025R, dye would not help. Need 2 people: one to keep watch on the circular sight glass while the other is pouring oil in. Once you get to the top of the glass, you have no idea where the level is. Can stick a stick down into the hole and do some measurements and guesstimate where it is. That's what I've done.

Why would dye not help? For example, if the oil is dyed green you would add a little, look at the glass, add a little, look at the glass until you have it filled to the level you want.

If all you see is green in the glass you have overfilled. Which is where I'm guessing you are.

The sight glass is the way to go. A little overfilled is not a problem. It won't hurt anything. A tip on the John Deere dye - it's really persistent. You don't have to use it every oil change, only every second or third.
