hydraulic oil and trans axle oil??

New to tractors and bought a used John deere 2210
Lets just say it has had some issues but with your help I have fixed them all..
I have just ordered a new lift cylinder for the front end loader (the chrome shaft was pitted bad and the seal was leaking)
I was looking thru my service manual CD (yep took your advise and bought it)
What I was looking for is the type of hydraulic fluid I need to buy to replace what I lost and all I can find is J20c oil for the trans axle..
My question is ...
Is that the hydraulic oil ? or two separate things?
I know there is a fill under the seat is there another one that uses the oil stated above or does the hydraulics use the same reservoir???

J20C is a spec for tractor fluid. Tractor fluid runs your hydraulics and your HST if you have one. The reserviour is in the transmission case. Tractor fluid is basically hydraulic fluid with extra additives to work with wet brakes. It's also sometimes multi-viscosity where typical hydraulic fluid is single viscosity.

So if I understand you correct ..both the transmission and hydraulics use the same reservoir ? I do not need to look for a separate place to fill each one?

Common reservoir, all oil gets put in oil filler at rear of tractor. J20C is a Deere designation from the 70's, you actually will struggle to find an oil that specifically says "meets jd20c" you will however find oodles that say "recomended for jd20c". Not saying anything wrong with them but not necc meeting said specs and there is no industry that tests them.

And the updated fluid is called JD hyguard. It is good for the older Tractors as well. Both tractor supply and rural king sell a hyguard equivalent. You'll recognize it by the higher price.
I've got a 2240 and I use the rural king hyguard equivalent. It's been a while since I changed the fluid but, I know it takes a lot. Seems like 11 or 12 gallon to refill it all.
The big cap behind the seat on the lift is where the hydraulic / trans fluid goes.

I use 2 specs when looking for trans-hyd fluid because if any spec is posted on the container one of these will be listed. For my older tractors, JD 303 spec covers equipment that went to a common sump and connected the transmission and hydraulic fluid sumps into a common sump thus using a light weight oil in the transmission with increased additives over plain hydraulic fluid to support that function. My Ford 3000 is such a tractor, no hydro tranny, no hydro steering, no wet brake, no this and no that.

I use the J 20C spec for my newer tractors with hydro steering, shuttle shifter, wet brake and whatever else is new in them to get the benefits of the increased additives to prevent wet brake chatter, foaming, and improved rust prevention and whatever else.

TSC for one sells 2 fluids with different specs listed on the container of each. One meets JD 303 and the Premium meets J20C. J20C is referred to as Hyguard sometimes.
