Afternoon, folks, long time lurker and finally came up with a question that I couldn't find the answer to posted here somewhere!

I recently acquired a very well used Magnum 165-5 (original magnum systems, inc version) that is still in very serviceable condition. Not planning to make a living with it (at least right now) but just clean up our property lines and open up some acreage for agriculture and recreation.

It appears that since Bradco acquired Magnum's mulchers, they have switched to a variable displacement motor (bosch/rexroth, maybe?)... a nice upgrade, but for my current application, not necessary. The motor installed on mine appears to be similar to an Eaton Series 1 fixed displacement. Normally a simple enough task to identify, but the label plate on the motor has been previously removed. Is anyone aware of the specs for the original motors on these units? I'd like to plan for the eventual need for re-sealing the motor and as yet have been able to cross reference it. The dealers I've talked with have stated that Bradco doesn't support the fixed displacement motors, and recommended upgrading to the new style motor, but it seems an unnecessary investment for me at this time, and with a machine thats well used and has no warranty I don't want to pay the markup on commercially available parts.

If it is an Eaton motor they might have stamped a model code in the front mounting flange. I believe most Eaton products were marked this way. If proprietary to Magnum it may or may not be marked.

Good luck

I had considered that the numbers may be stamped into the casing somewhere. I wasn't sure if anyone here might have had theirs off before. Seems many of these attachments, the OEMs only support them down to the major subassemblies (motors, load adapters, etc) and don't support items such as repair kits and lower level components which can often be repaired instead of replaced.

If I end up digging up some supporting information, I'll be sure to post it on here.

Hopefully this will end up being of use to others...

Did a bit more digging, and after a good bit of investigation, I found that 2 different styles of Eaton motor were used for the early Magnum 165. They are either a 6431 (uses a mechanical shaft seal) or a 6433 (uses a lip seal). Other than the shaft seal design the two motors are identical. The factory label plate should have been beside the case drain port on the motor housing. From the conversations I've had, it appears that Bradco doesn't support the Eaton motors, and the conversion to variable displacement was made prior to Palladin's acquisition of the company, so they didn't have any specifics on the older motors.

I've located some parts and service info for these motors as well. If anyone needs them, I'm happy to share!
