Afternoon, folks, long time lurker and finally came up with a question that I couldn't find the answer to posted here somewhere!
I recently acquired a very well used Magnum 165-5 (original magnum systems, inc version) that is still in very serviceable condition. Not planning to make a living with it (at least right now) but just clean up our property lines and open up some acreage for agriculture and recreation.
It appears that since Bradco acquired Magnum's mulchers, they have switched to a variable displacement motor (bosch/rexroth, maybe?)... a nice upgrade, but for my current application, not necessary. The motor installed on mine appears to be similar to an Eaton Series 1 fixed displacement. Normally a simple enough task to identify, but the label plate on the motor has been previously removed. Is anyone aware of the specs for the original motors on these units? I'd like to plan for the eventual need for re-sealing the motor and as yet have been able to cross reference it. The dealers I've talked with have stated that Bradco doesn't support the fixed displacement motors, and recommended upgrading to the new style motor, but it seems an unnecessary investment for me at this time, and with a machine thats well used and has no warranty I don't want to pay the markup on commercially available parts.
