Help Guys!

How do I calculate the size hydraulic motor needed to power a 2000# winch I have with a burned out electric motor? I have 2000 PSI at 6 GPM available. I would direct couple to the winch shaft so no loss in the drive mechanism. Would putting a flow restrictor in the forward and reverse lines increase the motor size requirements?

Thanks for advice in advance.

You would need to know the torque of the electric motor, and find hyd motor with same or greater torque.

The hyd motor speed will be based on the GPM's that you supply.

Torque on a hyd motor will be fairly constant from 0 rpm to max rpm.

Here are some hyd motor you might look at.

JJ, Thanks, that helps some. Could't determine torque but the electric motor is 1 HP at 12V DC

Military winches come up for sale pretty often for cheap. They are 24v for the diverter hyd winches. They are designed to run off the power steering pump of a humvee. Do you think the rear remote or 3rd function couod be adapted to power it on a tractor?

The 24 v motor just might run off 12, at half speed.

You could put two 12 v batteries in series for 24 v.

All the 24v power does is power the solenoid. It's a hyd winch. Fluid goes in and the solenoid diverts it to in or out by using the remote. It will work with 12v, just wondering about powering the hyd off my tractor

Here's one for visual reference. When I got my tractor stuck this wouldve been helpful

Find out what the Humvee power pressure is and then set a relief for the winch to that figure.

You can vary the tractor GPM output by setting the engine speed.

3rd function would work, just switch it on and control the hyd flow with a valve.

Volume of hyd flow will dictate the winch speed.
