After waiting three weeks to get my brush hog back, I was pretty pleased to get mowing again. At the end of the day I noticed a leak which I assume to be the hydraulic/transmission oil. Take a look at the pictures, I'm pointing at the connection where it's leaking. It only leaks when the tractor is running.

Can I just tighten this fitting? I didn't want to crank on it until I knew it wasn't going to make it worse.

And, although I'm sure I should know this, how does one check the level of the fluid? I had to fill it last year, but it was bone dry and I knew what was supposed to go in. I don't recall a dipstick. Do I just pull the drainplug and let it run out?

Thanks.

Thanks, JJ.

Will do. Are you suggesting the loctite so that it doesn't back off and come loose again, or more as a putty/teflon tape kind of sealer?

Thanks.

Is that a 20 or 60 series Mahindra? I replaced a power steering line at the cylinder on my 6520. I had to keep tightening the new line fittings numerous times over time. I would imagine the fitting just needs to be snugged up a little.

I don't understand what you are wanting to do. Check the hyd./tranny fluid or change the fluid? My dipstick and filler port for hyd./tranny fluid is to the right of the PTO shaft shield. I drain my fluid by removing the plate with 4 bolts just forward of the differential on the left side.

If that fitting on the hose is the stationary hose fitting, as you tighten the fitting, the complete hose is trying to turn. If that is the case, unloosen the other end of the hose which should be a swivel, and tighten the stationary hose end first, then the swivel end.

correct me if I am wrong, but being a hard line, would that have an oring in it?

also being a hard line, a backup wrench it is must so you do not bend the line.

Texas3Life,
The hard line I replaced had no o rings. It mated up with the banjo fitting, which I had a backup wrench on. Backup wrenches help keep the fitting (union) you are putting the line on from turning. If the fitting turns and has another hard line on it, that line can twist.

It appears that you are working on a 30 series tractor (correct me if I am wrong), and if it is a 30 series, the transmission/hydraulic dip stick should on the left side in the area of the clutch linkage, and it should have yellow paint on it.
As for the fitting, loosen the outer line nut and try to snug up the fitting in the pump, then retighten the line nut. If that don't work, take the fitting most of the way out, clean the threads with brake cleaner and put some thread sealant on them and tighten everything up. If that don't work, there may be a cracked or defective fitting. Good luck with it.

My apologies for the slow reply.

I ended up just giving maybe a sixteenth of a turn, and that stopped the leak. This is a 4530 mahindra, and i have no idea if there was an o-ring in there.

thanks for the help!
