I have a TC33D with FEL. My question is one about hydraulic lag. This is most apparent in two different actions.

When I use the "quick dump" feature of the FEL, I move the level all the way over and it takes a couple seconds before doing the fast dump, no matter how much is in the bucket. This is scarcely faster than using the regular dump speed.

The second area is the 3ph arms. If I have a box blade on the back and go to feather the blade up, it takes a couple seconds to start moving, which, of course make me move the lever some more, which then dumps most of the dirt I am dragging. My yards ends up looking like it has "Moguls" in it. :)

Is this a symptom of low hydraulic pressure or just my inexperience?

Not sure about the 3PH arms, but the quick dump is gravity driven. All you're doing is opening up the ports and allowing the bucket to gravity dump. The rate of tip is a function of whats in the bucket, the height, and the tractor position ( uphill / downhill ).

My 5030 Kubota has the same bucket problem. Talked to the dealer and had him out for a beer and showed it to him and he said that when you use the "quick dump" feature, because the valve is regenerative, the fluid is purged from the cylinders, leaving no fluid for immediate rollback. His suggested that I run the tractor at least 1500 rpm so the pump can keep up with the valve and not allow fluid evacuation. In my last 5 Kubota's, I never had any hesitation at all, but the valving on the 5030 is different from my previous models. I would assume that your tractor has similar valving as the hesitation seems the same. I don't know about the lift arm hesitation. I've not noticed that. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My FEL is ok, but my 3ph will drop anything like right now. All's I have to do is move the arm down just a bit and all of a sudden the attachment just drops. I thought maybe it was more operator and the arm didn't move too well. But even after 7 months it still is that way.

The 3ph drop rate is controlled by a little knob under the seat with a "tortoise and hare" graphic on it. Crank it to "tortoise" and see if it drops more slowly. My problem is with up not down. I like a fast down on the 3ph, it helps my box blade dig into the shale/clay "soil" better when it slams down hard. :)

I spent quite a few hours on my TC33D last week doing box blade work on my lot. I did not notice a lag when raising the 3ph unless the box was loaded w/ dirt. I could not feather it w/ a full load because it would not raise gradually. I would have to keep raising the lever and suddenly the box blade would rise up, often too far to feather the load. I don't remember this being a problem when the box blade was empty.

I am not sure if my FEL lags when doing a quick dump. I am trying to remember a particular time when it has paused a second or two and it is possible that it has done it on occasion. I will hopefully be doing more dirt work this week, weather allowing, and will pay more attention to the two problems you mention.

What you describe with your box blade is exactly what I am talking about. I never try to feather with an empty box blade, just a loaded one. My soil here is heavy clay and shale, it is all the tractor can do to pull the box blade with the scarfiers down in first gear with 4x4 locked though this type soil. Maybe it is just too much weight for it to do smoothly.

I spend weekend doing box blade and FEL work leveling a site for a new garage. Had to dig out an area about 48'x60'x about 16" deep. The dirt pile is huge. Dumping the FEL without using the fast dump at 2200 rpm is definitely quite a bit faster than using the "Fast"dump on a full bucket. I just started to anticipate when I would arrive at the dirt pile. After a few hundred buckets, I started getting the feel of it.

I found out what my problem was. It was two things.

One was low Hydraulic Fluid. I had to add about a gallon.

Second is the soil. Very wet, sticky clay. I didn't realize it was so heavy, but I could barely lift a full bucket with the FEL and dragging a full box boxblade could only be done in low range. Full buckets of gravel and regular dirt are fine.

I still want to test the hydraulic pressure, but everything seems normal now.

On my 1920, I notice that the 3ph drops fine.. but goes up slower than I want... not as fast as my 8n or naa. or yanmar.. but I will point out that it goes up steady, and at the same speed loaded or unloaded in other words, It will go up empty or with my 700# disc...same speed... Feathers fine.. even under load.. moves as soon as you touch the position control.. just not fast...
