1970 JD 820
Hello, I am new to this forum and looking for some help/suggestions hooking up hydraulics on my newly acquired JD 820. I have it installed on the tractor but what I am unsure of is I can run this off of the tractors hydraulic system and what do I need to do that? or do I need to purchase a pto pump? Witch is easy enough to figure out but definitely less desirable .The tractor does have a newer OEM tandem pump with power steering, I believe 5.8gpm at 2100 rpm?? There are currently no auxiliary remotes on the tractor. There is no power beyond or float on the loaders valve, there is an external tank built into the tower. Thank you in advance for any help!

Here is a picture of the loader on the tractor.

On the loader you should have 3 pipes. The designations vary a little but there should be an IN port which is the primary feed. There should be a TANK port which needs to be connected to the transmission tank. There should be a PYB (Power Beyond or Out) which needs to connect to the 3 point hitch hydraulics. Basically you interrupt the line from the pump to the 3 point. Take pump side to IN and 3 point side to PYB out. Then a 3rd line goes to the tank to expel what you use in your FEL.

THIS IS ASSUMING YOUR FEL HAS THE POWER BEYOND FEATURE for use in an Open Center hydraulic system. Power Beyond is a feature of the hydraulic spool valve and usually just a fitting that redirects out port hydraulic fluid. Likely you have this. What tractor was it previously on?

Can you post a picture of the other lines that come into the spool? Not the hoses going to your FEL.

There should be 2 more lines. Your OUTLET needs to pipe to your 3 point hitch input. You also need to get under the tractor and find the hydraulic lines feeding the 3 point hitch.

This says you have open center hydraulics so that is good

The OP mentioned that the loader valve doesn't have PB port and has it's own reservoir. Which means it was used it a dedicated pump with it's standalone circuit.

Now the OP has two options. Either get a pump running of the crankshaft and keep the loader as an independent circuit or get a loader valve with PB port.

I would probably go with a newer valve with joystick, float and PB port. It's probably the easiest solution.

Going with the pump would mean you would need to fab the mounts and get couplings machined which might increase the cost. Plus a pump with proper flow for that loader gets expensive really fast.

Here's a schematic the way JD engineers thought open center loader valve should be plumbed to a JD 820 3 cyl engine utility tractor. Hyd manifold(key 28) is part # W21205

Please allow me to point out one part of this that should be changed before you put the FEL to work.

The 90 degree Street Elbow in one of your photos is a plumbing fitting and has no place in a hydraulic system. It is made of iron not steel and can fracture under pressure.

A "real" steel hydraulic fitting to replace it is readily available.

Not knowing your level of hydraulic knowledge, I would like to further caution you on the dangers posed by leaking hydraulic systems. If you already know this stuff great.!

Tx Jim's schematic will be the way to go.

Is that manifold some sort of flow divider?

Is that manifold some sort of flow divider?

More likely it provides a "power beyond," circuit.

That way full flow is available for the additional circuit.
A divider has to divide so less than full flow to either circuit.

For starters I would like to acknowledge that this forum is probably the best I have ever been a part of! You guys rock!!! I have only been a part of it for a couple days and already I am getting quality info and help, thanks! I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
