Tractor
New Holland TC29D
I have a New Holland TC29D. In a not so smart move, I let my good friend hook up a log splitter that ran off the tractor hydraulics. I do not know what kind of fluid was in the splitter but it fouled my hydraulics. (It turned a dirty milky color) I changed the fluid to the most recommended at Tractor Supply. The tractor works OK but does not seem as strong as it was before the log splitter incident. My question is: does anyone know of a hydraulic / hydrostatic oil cross reference chart? ....and what might happen with a fluid what does not meet specs? The New Holland fluid is very expensive plus about a 3-4 hour round trip to the New Holland dealer.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the info. I have most of the milky color out of the system. Sometimes I see a faint streak when bleeding or checking the hydraulic fluid, but it's almost 100% clear / brown as it should be.

Yea, got about 2 feet on the ground now. Problem is that we have only had a few hours (<10) above freezing in the last several weeks. So when it snows it just accumulates. We are expecting a few more storms before any of it will melt so who know how much we will have to deal with before the spring melt. It could be a lot worse. We could live in Minnesota. In 2011, our first year in Connecticut, we had 4 back-to-back storms that dumped about 7 feet on the ground at one point. I've got photos of snow three feet above mailboxes.

For anyone considering purchasing a tractor in snow country, I highly recommend a front end loader with a float function and a box blade on the back. It makes a very versatile snow removal machine. An enclosed cab would also be nice but I do not have one.

What type and viscosity does your owner's manual recommend?

What type and viscosity did you put in?
