Does anyone know what the correct fluid type is for an MF35? Does it use the straight mineral oil the TO-20 does, or does it take the "universal" type?

I'm not up on the TX series as much as the N fords.. but here is some info.

On the ford/ferguson 9n/2n and the ford 8n oem oil was 90wt mineral oil.. commonly found as a gl-1 oil at napa, tractors supply and wallmart.

The to 20 probably used this too.. machines very similar. I have afriend that has an 8n front with the rear end of a to-30 bolted on it.. mates right up to the tranny of the 8n.. same gasket and all... only differences are the to-30 has smooth rear hubs like a ford 100 series.. and the to-30 has draft control hyds only.. not position like the N.. still used the belly pump though.

The Ns had a common sump.. oil inthe tranny, diffy, and hyds were the same oil... 5 gallons. When NH bought ford.. they updated the oil spec to their universal oil.. a Nh m2c134d oil.. Functionally equivalent to the unitran oils on the market.. this is is thin.. like a 10w20 or so... but works in the N's belly pump as long as all the seals in the hyd ram ar ok.. otherwise it leaks a bit.

Now heres a difference. When ford went to the NAA in 53 they seperated the hyds.. and the hyd pump went to engine mount.. and had a seperate vane pump and seperate hyd sump.. that hyd pump only used the thin oil.. not the 90wt stuff.

Does your tx-35 have a belly pump and common sump like the older N's? Or does it have a seperate hydro pump like the NAA

If seperate.. I think you can only use the lighter oil.. If it is a belly pump.. I think you can use either. Real cold temps will make the 90wt oil thick and give you sluggish hyds untill it warms up.. hot weather should be fine.. might make an otherwise worn lift pretty workable. Hot weather on the thin oil might make an otherwise ok system leak.. or if your seals are weak anyway.. you might notice leaks.

( I'm guessing common sump and belly pump.. am I correct? )

also.. TSC carries the I&T manual for a couple of the TO series machines.. probably to20 and 30.. not sure about 35..

You can also try on the ferguson board at ytmag.com

Hope that helped some.
