Here's one for you hydraulic experts out there, it relates to estimating cycle times for a log splitter run off the tractor's existing hydraulic lines-or anyhting else for that matter.

If the rated flow of a tractor is listed as 6.8 GPM total, with 2.0 GPM listed as power steering capacity, does that mean that no matter what I will only have 4.8 GPM at the remotes, OR if I'm NOT using the power steering (i.e. parked), does that other 2.0 GPM become available at the remotes for general use?

Another question is what to do with the third hydro (return) line that normally goes to the back hoe. Will anything bad happen if I just hook up the splitter to the two hrdro lines and leave the return unconnected or will it cause too much pressure somewhere in the system and cause damage?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

I'm not a hydraulics expert so not sure on first question, but 3rd line just stays disconnected and doesn't affect anything.
