2008 PT425
Hi all,

Getting to know my 2008 PT425 and discovered an oil leak at the fitting in the pic. This is from the passenger side looking in. Any ideas or tips? I tried tightening it but it was already bottomed out.

Anyone know the size of the small fitting the hose connects to?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

That doesn't look right. Is it as big a stream, coming out the bottom, as it looks in the picture?

I'm guessing you'll be replacing that hose, or fitting. I posted some info in Power Trac Parts Cross Reference thread, for a 422 so your mileage may very. And of course, Terry at Power Trac would probably be able to tell you. Have your sn# and year handy.

The pic is deceiving. It’s actually dripping about once every 2 seconds or so, but I happened to get a pic when it was dripping. Going to try to partially drain the oil and take the fitting out.

Did you over tighten it ? The swivel nut looks bottomed out on the fitting.....

Get a new hose it should not bottom out...

Here are the parts of the fitting. The o-ring is slightly chewed up so I’ll definitely replace that. Is it only supposed to have 1 o-ring? And, just to make sure, the tapered part of the fitting is what goes into the hose, correct? I suspect it bottomed out because the tapered part was going to the pump...

That fitting is orb/sae on one side and jic on the other. The tapered, JIC, fitting goes to the hose and the orb(o-ring boss) side goes to the block.

Orb fittings in blocks often have bonded washer and oring. The jic side should never have an oring.

Unfortunately they thread up at similar sizes so easy to install backwards.

As many problems as that machine gave Bryan, I'd check every fitting and connection on it.

Not any kind of an expert, in anything, but i wouldn't expect to see o-ring on the tapered end of the fitting, but rather on the NTP side. When i replaced the broken hose on the ram did NOT have o-ring on tapered side. The o-ring could be impinging on the travel for the compression fitting, and not allowing it to seat completely. I was told, not to go crazy on tightening this small of a fitting, but to assemble, tighten, clean it off and monitor for leak, if it leaks, tighten just a little more. Apparently, it's fairly easy to deform the fittings.
