hydraulic filter

has anyone added a hydraulic filter to a jinma? Thinking of adding one to keep the hydraulics clean and responsive.

That filter looks like a cartridge type fuel filter. Most hydraulic filters I have seen have been a canister type like an oil filter. The filters in the pictures looked like they were on the verge of collapse.

Well - I said it's GOT one. I didn't go as far as to say it's got a GOOD one. But it's more rigid than it appears in the photos. Biggest problem with it is the house of cards design. See attachment. If that bottom bolt backs out, the whole thing self destructs inside the reservior. Damned hard to clean without damaging/distorting the screen too.

Is there any way you could install an after market canister type and just do away with the cartridge type? It looks like a time bomb just waiting to explode.

I have seen pictures, from people who added canister filters to the return line. They were mounted on the left side of the tractor, infront of the hard line return, by the steering control valve. If you do this, before removing the filter in the tank, check 3pt hyd return. I think it goes direct to tank vs return line.

Return line? But isn't the point to have the filter BEFORE the pump?

No hydraulics expert, but believe there are filters designed for either suction side or return side. In a hyd system like Jinma's, ie not one shared with with transmission, the tank doesn't generate any metal particles. The particles come from wear of the pump and cylinders. The particles are trapped before entering the tank. I also believe that suction side filters must have tighter tolerances to not effect flow rate. A restriction has more impact on suction side than return.

the filter on a 354 is on the suction side ie the drivers side of the tractor and there is metal in the tank I just drained mine and flushed with kerosene.
