My hydraulics are not working correctly (very slow) and from the past I know it needs the filter and fluid changed in the hydraulics. Can anyone tell me where to do this on the Ford 1700?

i have a ford 1300 and if i am not mistaken the 100 series have a lot in common so it may be the same. the hydraulics on the 1300 tractor are incorporated in with the transmission fluid. in other words they share the same fluid, so you drain the transmission to change the hydraulic fluid. the hydraulic filter on my 1300 ford sits on the left side of the engine. it is horizontal to the ground. it is a paper rfilter in a canister, the end of the canister is held in place by one small bolt. remove the bolt and gently tap the cover off. there is a rubber o ring that seals the cover, be careful not to lose the spring inside the cover. just pull the old filter out , replace with the new filter and reinstall the cover and spring,a little lubrication on the o ring will help when reinstalling the cover. good luck. 01hunter570

If you do not see a hdy filter on the outside, it may be like my 1900. if it is, the filter is a metal screen, internal and is a real pain to clean. There is a large metal line running on the right side front to rear. Both ends have to be disconnected to free the filter that is attached to the front end of the metal line. I have thought of cutting this metal hose and installing a filter base with screw on filter. Because of all the hassle I've only cleaned my filter 3-4 times in 30 years.

If you follow the larger diameter pipe on the right side of you tractor you will find the filter inside the back right wheel well. Not too hard to get to and remove. can be a little messy. My 1700 sat for 12 years. The oil was milky white when drained. Probably gonna drain the oil again. I'm going to replace/rebuild the hydraulic seals/washers on my ag 720 loader. Most likely a line or two. Hope this helps.
