Hydraulic (electric) Lift for Mule Trans?

2 questions......

First, can a hydraulic (electric powered) ram be installed on a Mule Trans 3010 and used in the full bed mode?

Secondly, who makes the kit and has anyone installed one?

Robert,

Type "Mule Bed-lift Installation" in this FORUM SEARCH. A fellow named jinman gives us a great step-by-step installation with photos of a Power-Hoist. It is however in a single seat Mule but the lift is rated at 1200 lbs and our Trans beds are rated at 1100 lbs. Maybe these capacities are too close together for a Trans but they might make another larger capacity unit. Do note that this lift will add 1-1/2" of bed height to the Mule.
If you put a full length stationary top on the Trans, you will have to modify the height of the headache rack due to clearance issues while dumping in the full bed mode.
I also am researching a lift kit for my 2008 3010 Trans Mule.

Excellent photos and descriptions in that thread, BUT, I have serious doubts about using it on the Trans. The ram basically pushes a bar that is attached to the rear of the bed. Fully loaded, I really don't think it will lift a Trans bed. Just too much weight, too far from the lifting ram.

I will check and see if the make a heavier model.

In reality, I would think that a ram mounted closer to the front of the bed will lift easier in either bed size. Don't know if it can be done though.

I installed the electric/Hydraulic lift from Beartooth on my 3010 Trans 4x4. It works great! Incredible lifting power and a very easy installation. I HIGHLY recommend it. I researched several types and brands and the Beartooth lift is by far superior!
BTW, it has a sensor that will not let you lift the bed when you are in the 4 seater position. Nice safety device.

I called Beartooth to get a price and the Trans is way more than the normal Mules. I really don't know if I want to spend $820 (includes shipping) on a bed lift. That's a lot of money for a linear actuator.

I think I am going to stop at a heavy equipment dealer (Case, JD, etc) and price out the KYB MMP (only obtainable via dealer). If the price is low enough, I will just build my own.

True, it's not cheap. But they have really engineered the thing very well. If you build your own, be careful. One of the big issues is lifting the bed (loaded) and not twisting it. The actuator is off center due to the need to clear the engine and pushing up on the bed on one side when it is loaded runs the risk of permanantly twisting it and bending the heck out of it where it will no longer sit flat when lowered.
