Case 480B Backhoe
I just picked up a Case 480B Backhoe, Serial # 5270076. Sat for 15 years. I had it running after 15 minutes!!!!! Anyway, I replaced a bunch of hydraulic hoses, but noticed several cylinders are leaking hydraulic fluid. I want to reseal them, but cannot find the serial numbers on them to order the seal kits.
I've checked the face of the gland, and the cylinder tubes for the numbers, and I don't see any. I even used a wire wheel to take off any paint on the face of the gland on a few of them with no luck. Can anyone tell where they may be stamped or how to tell which seal kit I will need? I need seal kits for the following cylinders:
2 Stabilizer kits
2 Swing cylinder kits
1 Dipper cylinder kit
I already purchased a kit for one of the loader lift cylinders.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Actually, that site is the reason I am so confused. You can see there are several variations for my backhoe. Just can't figure out which one I needed. There are no visible serial #s on any cylinders that I could find.

I probably will. I ordered one to make sure its correct before I get anymore, any suggestions on how to identify the others though?

Hercules drop down menus to select machine. I just got some seals from them for my first rebuild project I plan to do myself (smaller cylinders). The original cylinders that started leaking were the largest ones (dipper and boom)and I'm glad I paid a local shop to rebuild them. With Case it's either the gland nut is difficult, according to him, or the rod bolt.

I just did the dipper stick on my JCB backhoe. Though I didn't have a big range of choices, as it turns out I had a couple extra in my package that I ended up not needing.

Would you be able to take one of yours apart to visually see what parts are in there and then perhaps use that to compare some of the kits?

Or, do what I did.... take it to a hydraulic shop.... let them have it for three weeks telling you they're still trying to find the parts. Ask for it back (since you found the parts on Ebay in literally 12 minutes) and you'll do it....only to find when it returns, they've already taken it apart and literally EVERY SINGLE gasket/seal/other has been removed and now, with no reference of what goes where, you have to figure out the location of the new parts!!

Made it go a little slow as I had to be a bit of a detective.... but I got it all done for under $75 whereas the last time I had the same cylinder redone (at the dealer verses this shop) they charged me something around $1,000. Now that I know what I know (this was my first ever rebuild), I doubt I'll ever send one out again.
