I have a hydraulic cylinder that I want to use for a project. I need the check valves to prevent/reduce leakdown like on the Top and Tilt cylinder I got from CCM. I'd get it from him but I need a shorter stroke than he carries.

Does anyone have any experience installing them on the cylinder? Can you explain exactly how they work? I've attached a drawing of the cylinder specs.

Here's what I need to know...
What components do I need to complete the set-up?
Any special specs or PN when ordering?
Where can I get them?...ebay or someplace else?
Thanks as always,

I just ordered a hydraulic top link for my Kubota BX2200.
from http://www.redlandhill.com/
These people will make it to your order, and are the only one I could find that made one with a 15" pin to pin closed, 23" extended.
I should have mine shortly and will report on it at that time.
including how it works on my box blade.

Thanks for the links guys,
I couldn't figure out how the "check" valves would work...because they only work in one direction? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Well, now I know I need that double pilot- operated lock valve, not the check valve I was looking at.
Thanks again,

About 2 years ago Mark Carter (CCI) posted the specs on the double pilot operated check valves that were used on the CCM cylinders. The biggest issue is with the cracking pressure. The valves available here in the USA have too low of a cracking pressure and are too expensive. The valves on the CCM cylinders are only available in europe.

I have tried, and my friend who owns a hydraulic repair shop has tried, without success to find valves with the same specs here in the USA. Some people have used the DPOCV's from Surplus Center with success, but in my view, the price is too much to pay for something that may give marginal performance.

Here is a link to the thread where Mark talks about the specs and explains how the DPOCV's work. Read the entire thread (all pages).

3RRL,

I assume you already have remotes on your tractor to operate the cylinders...so it seems that having a pilot operated check valve between the control valve and the cylinder, to lock the cylinder in place is the only option.

IF you were installing a new system, an option would be a control valve that has the pilot operated check valves built into it. This is what I have and I am happy with it. But it does not have the advantage that a cylinder that has the check valve piped into has, that is, a blown hose will cause my cylinder to lose its locking ability, whereas the CCM cylinder, with the check valve mounted on the cylinder, would hold position, even if a hose fails.

During NORMAL operation a check valve remote from the cylinder works as well as one anywhere else in the system, but worst case, the check valve at the cylinder is superior.

Just thought I would mention this as a reference for future readers. I am very happy with my inferior system...which has the pilot operated check valves built into the control valve. I do however accept the fact that pilot operated check valves mounted on the cyclinder are superior, if the worst case happens... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That's good information, Henro... and I do have rear remotes to work it from.

I read your posts in that other thread along with Mad's and it's helped me realize what I need to do for this one particular project. However, you bring up an interesting point because I may need to add an additional system, now that my last remote will be used up for the hydraulic ripper project.

If it's not too much trouble, could you post a link to that control valve with the check valves built into it. I would think a 2 spool would do it for me. I'm not saying I won't use the piped-in check valves on the cylinders for that system, but I would like to check it out.
Thanks,

I believe he used the Prince SV as Henro and I had many conversations about it. It's the only valve that is a "configure you own" style. You need spool option SVL1CA1 or option L on their configurer. Oh, and that spool is about twice the price of a standard spool ($70 vs $110).

Pilot operated check valve is a check valve that has a piston or plunger which can open the check valve for reverse flow. Be aware that pilot check have a ratio pilot to work port (example 4 to 1 work port has 400psi on it, the pilot pressure only need to be 100psi to override the check) If you only want to lock the cylinder from drifting down you need only a single pilot operated check.
