HVAC Certification

For the ones here that are HVAC certified. Does your state require xxx number of C.E.C 'S each year to renew your certification ?? The reason that I ask is, that my state HVAC board started this. The state Gas / Plumbing board (here) doesn't require any C.E.C' S for renewal

Florida is on a two-year cycle for electrical licenses, so you have two years to complete the required number of hours. They require continuing education for all state registered/certified licenses I have seen.

In N.C the answer is yes.

It's all a game, but you have to play by their rules and apparently you just got a new rulebook

(don't worry, they'll make it up as they go along without any rhyme or reason).

I know what ya mean. This year my state is proposing to require all HVAC contractors to have C.E.C every year instead of every other year . At this time my state HVAC license is also good for refrigeration work. Next year they want to change this as a seprate exam / certification . I think it's all about how much $$$$$$$ the state can haul in

Money AND control (which I sincerely think started out with the best intentions, and now it's just a CYA game so they don't lose their jobs).

Big thing in N.C now per the inspections department is we're going to R-8 flex Jan 1st on all supply runs in an unconditioned space. Can go as low as R2 on the returns in a conditioned space. Ductboard will be 2" as well as ductliner (talk about trying to keep inventory).

What's really funny and I don't know if your state is anything like mine, but it all comes down to the inspector of the local county as far as what they want to enforce. Sometimes I do know what I'm doing, and I'll get a call from another contractor in a different county. He'll ask me what the code is and my response is always "whatever the inspector wants".
