Hi all. I have a Husqvarna YTH2248 riding mower with the Kohler CV675 engine. It is about 9 years old. Lately it has been bogging down after about 5 minutes of mowing. It works fine for those 5 minutes, then it drops down to about 60% or 70% power...I can still mow a bit but not really because the engine just bogs down too much with the deck engaged. It sounds like the engine is lugging, and the exhaust smell changes (becomes more...exhausty). If I try adjusting the manual choke it functions correctly (i.e., if I apply any choke when the engine is warm, it will begin to bog down further).

I gave it a tuneup this spring (belts, blades, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil + filter). Once problems began, I rebuilt the carburetor using the Kohler kit. That didn't help. Then I replaced the carburetor altogether with a new OEM one...didn't help. Then I replaced the pulse fuel pump with the correct Kohler part, but that didn't help either.

I am now at a loss. I removed the hose from the pulse port and verified I'm getting puffs of air at the port when turning over the engine. What else can I check?

I'll respond to my post in case anyone has a similar problem and reads this in the future. This was a case of "check the simple stuff first," which I'm usually pretty good about. Not this time...had the wrong fuel filter installed.

This particular engine (Kohler model CV675S, spec 75583) is not the "Pro" model but appears to use a mix of regular and Pro-level parts, one of those parts being the fuel filter. I installed the fuel filter (2505022-S) that came in the regular Kohler CV twin maintenance kit, but my engine actually needs Kohler fuel filter 2405013-S. Once I installed that fuel filter, the engine ran like a top. No loss of power whatsoever while mowing.

I'm annoyed with myself, but really glad to have it working again. Hoping to get a couple more years out of it, particularly with the entire fuel system refreshed.

It sounds to me like you bought and installed the wrong fuel filter, check your part numbers and try again. Well that was easy lol

I'm glad you found and fixed the issue so quickly.

Yep, I bought and installed the wrong fuel filter. But that filter was included in what is considered the "correct" maintenance kit for my engine. That's what I needed to be careful of...not just assuming those parts were actually correct.

BTW I would have never guessed that, I was going to say that I would go over everything you just did if the problem was just after that "tune up". That's an interesting fix, one to remember.
