Having trouble getting my starter set up working
I've replaced rewind spring and rope.

This model has the wrap around spring, then cassette holder for same, followed by a plastic housing that catches rewind spring and houses starter rope, then another spring that sits in this housing, followed by the plastic pawl that engages the F Wheel and then a screw that holds the pawl to the plastic housing (that catches rewind spring.)

I can get the rope to recoil, if I don't tighten the screw that holds the pawl to the plastic housing, snug. (while separated from saw)
If I tighten snug, the rope wont pull out but if I loosen a little, the rope will recoil. (separate from the saw)
But, when I attach to FW, it still wont recoil and the rope is left dangling.

I've tried different number of revolutions for the spring, the most 8 and the least 3.5. Makes no difference.

Bought same diameter rope and correct rewind spring.

I would just take it to a shop but I have too many hours trying to figure out why it wont recoil.

Thanks bullbreaker...I have watched his twice and about 7 or 8 more on You Tube...but I'm gonna watch it again.

His model doesn't have the spring that goes between the engaging pawl and the plastic housing that holds the rope.

Also, mine has a cassette holder for the rewind spring. You coil the spring in it and place it down in the side cover. (which bolts to the FW) I have tried it w/o the cassette holder but still no difference.

One thing I noticed after watching it this time is, he didn't pre-load the spring which I have been doing...I've been making several revolutions of the spring before putting the screw through the top piece that engages the FW. I'll give it a try tomorrow...Thanks

Wonder if same one they used in poulan. Husky is their parent company. Looking at husky IPL looks little different on part going to flywheel.

IPL page 12 https://www.motoculture-jean.fr/upload/pdf/HIPL2006_5449075-01.pdf

What is it doing?

Just happen to take one apart and back in now. But have extra. Poulan one.

Easy to work on, just get in there.

Yours is similar to mine, my cord passes through and stays in place with a knot while your attaches with a screw..

The PDF you sent, shows I have the spring, coiled in the wrong direction pg. N Mine is coiled CW.

Is that the direction yours is coiled? Thank you for the feedback and the PDF.

I've put it back together exactly like the PDF shows and as the You Tube video demonstrates...pre-testing recoil before attaching to CS, still can't snug up the end screw or it wont recoil.

When attached to the FW, it wont pull the rope back in. I looked at dozen or more videos (You Tube) and some showed pre-loading the spring which I've done and didn't seem to make any difference.

Another reply from a different forum said this: "It sounds like you do not have the rope coil all the way seated in the cover. And thats whtly the screw is tightening against the wheel and the wheel is being pressed against the flywheel upon reassembly."

I don't follow that...do you understand what he is saying?
