Lost spark. Bought new ignition module but still very weak spark. How can I check to see if module(old & new) is any good?

I am having the same problem with my 235R. I have changed the spark plug, the fuel filter, and checked all the wiring. I checked and cleaned the contacts on the off-on switch but the switch itself is sealed and I have not tried replacing it. I cleaned the spark screen on the muffler even though there was no carbon build up. All of these very viable ideas came from another member of this forum who was most helpful. I have not tried a new ignition module (looks like a regular coil: set with a gap between contacts and fly wheel magnets). I did try regapping it at different settings but spark is still very weak but slightly stronger using a dollar bill as the gap setting (an old lawn mower trick from my youth). It will crank sometimes but will not accelerate: just dies when I push the throttle, it sounds like the plug is fouling or flooding out. When it does not crank after it dies, I remove the plug and blow it out and replace it. Then it will crank again only to die at acceleration. I tried high octane gas with the same amount of 2 cycle oil (that I have used for 8 years) but no difference.

You said you replaced the ignition module with a new one but spark did not get stronger? That was going to be my next step. Did you notice any change at all with the spark?

I know this is not helping you solve your problem but I am about to give up and take mine to the local Husqvarna dealer/mechanic who is good but expensive. I guess I'm hoping for one more idea that I have not tried.

Yes, sounds the same here. New module did produce more spark but stll very weak. I do not know what resistance these modules should have but there is a marked difference in the old and the new.. But the knew does not look like the old. Husky dealer says it is the replacement part for my 2254R. If you get any more info please pass it along. Nice thing with the dollar,,, tried that too.

Most small two cycle engines are equipped with a Walbro carburetor. If the unit has a primer bulb look at the bulb does the bulb stay completely full when you depress it to prime the unit for a cold start? I assume you can get the unit running since you said it would not accelerate. Does the primer bulb stay full of fuel when the unit is running? If the bulb does not stay full when you prime or the unit is running you may have a problem with the plate on the carburetor directly under the primer bulb. This plate has two small brass circles. Each circle contains a one way valve. One of the one way valve functions when you prime the unit, the other functions when the unit is running. Do not use compressed air to blow into the brass rings, you will damage the valve. If you hold the plate up to a bright light and look into the brass rings it will look like they go all the way through, but they do not. The one way valve is constructed of a clear material. Look at part # 5 on the parts break down of a Walbro WZ-11- carburetor at the Web site: Select a Component [Frontstep Customer Center 5 Frontstep, Inc.]

Some of the replacement coils for the older husky trimmers require a new flywheel as well, something to do with magnet strength and/or placement. I think it was on a 225r that I ran into this problem...
