Anybody had any experience with this brand of tractor. My father-in-law is interested in the 26 HP Briggs & Stratton with a 54" deck? Pros vs. Cons. Their sold at Tractor Supply.

A good friend bought one last month from Tractor Supply Co., so it's too soon to say how well he'll like in over the long haul.

I checked 1 out this spring, it seemed pretty light duty. I was replacing an 18 yr old craftsman. I ended up with a Kubota zero turn.

It looked like a lot of mower for the money, but still too light for my needs.

A good friend bought one from TSC about 3 years ago and has had no problems with it.

I have one. I bought it 2 years ago and I mow 4 acres with it. Never a problem that I didn't cause. I broke a spindle housing this year due to my own stupidity. that's it. I do replace the blades every year. We have sandy soil and it erodes the blades.

I'd buy another in an instant. I need to wear this one out and I figure it has at least 10 years in it.

The guy who bought the Kubota ZTR, well for the price of the ZTR you could have bought at least 2 Huskees. I'd think that 2 of them will outlast your Kubota. Kubota builds a good tractor, I have one so I am not demeaning them, but for the price, you can't beat a Huskee (MTD).

Thanks for the responses, I thought it looked pretty well built for the money. I have an MTD garden tractor I bought from Sams 17 years ago, other than routine oil changes, sharpening the blades, (never replaced them) all I've done is replace the drive belt and I replaced the starter this year. It still starts right up but after 17 years of mowing it is showing some age. I see allot of post about the best mowers etc... as far as the MTD I purchased it was a fine mower but turned out to be an excellent value.

My father-in-law was looking at the Huskee and I've been looking to buy a ZTR, down to Country Clipper Jazee Two but 5030 you make a valid point on the cost issue which is something I've been considering, cost of unit compared to time saved mowing with a ZTR. Since I don't have as much to mow as some, now I'm re-thinking the ZTR. I'm going to see how much of a discount the end of year sales bring, then will weigh the issues and make my purchase.

The Huskee appears to be a rebadged White Outdoors (also part of the MTD family with Cub Cadet, Bolens, Yard Man and Troy Bilt). I've had mine, a 23 hp 46" about a year. Seems to be a good value. I'd place it just below some of the Cubs in the MTD corporate ladder as to build quality. My only problem has been me. I tend to be unable to miss all the rocks on my property - I mow about 6 ac.- and have bent some blades. The spindles appear strong so far. I wish it didn't have all the engine kill switches, so called "operator safety devices" which tend to slow down the process of picking up debris and backing up. I could probably bypass most of them. Mine does not have an electric PTO which would be nice. The thing cuts very well even in tall heavy native field grasses. I've been thinking about a ZTR for the potential speed increase, but the $$ keep me just looking. A 7ga. deck and 1/4" blades might even tolerate the occasional rock better, but I, like others, find I could get at least 2 Huskee replacements for even a "homeowner" model ZTR. However, that speed increase has to be worth something. I would buy a Huskee again if its needed.

Vicory,

I was given a Huskee lawn tractor before I got my "real" tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif about four years back. It was the least expensive model they sold. Engine was a 12 hp Briggs and I didn't have a lick of problem with it. Weak spot was the deck and it's attachment points. In all fairness, I had a bumpy, rocky yard and it was pretty tough on it.

I gave it away to my BIL and sister. They fixed it up and it works great.

My Kubota lawn tractor (T1670) is four times the lawn tractor, and it should be, because it cost four times as much as a new one. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I looked at a 23hp 46" Huskee before I bought my Craftsman. The ONLY reason I went with the craftsman was te 2" wider deck and 3 more HP. I thought they were both well built machines for the price. I had a 4 yr old, 13 HP huskee that was much smaller that I had to replace. Like many others, I had to replace it, on;y because of my own stupidity(i.e. the tranny could NOT handle a concrete block laden, 6' piece of harrow in my drive) /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif To give the mower credit, it made it another 6 months or so before it died. I suspect that when i tried to pull the harrow I burned up the seals and the oil slowly leaked out over time.
oops.. I digressed... at any rate I would not hesitate to buy that tractor... but you may want to look at the crafstman too....not that I am biased now or anything... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Husky appears to be a re badged White Outdoors (also part of the MTD family with Cub Cadet, Bolens, Yard Man and Troy Bilt).
=====================================

I have a 1966 Bolens Built when Bolens was the owner manufacturer.Bolens sold out to MTD. The husky built now by MDT are nothing but a MTD with the a husky label on them .There is no similarity between the original Bolens built by Bolens and the Husky Made by MTD.
MTD has reduced the quality of the bolens down to their standards so don't be fooled by the Husky name.
I also have a 1995 wards powercraft manufactured by MTD.This thing has Been a piece of junk compared to The Bolens. There is a world of difference between the quality of construction between the bolens and the wards MTD.

If I was going to be sucker enough to ever buy MTD again I would look at them all
forget the brand tag and get the one with the lowest price.
