I知 looking for a trailer to haul my Mahindra 2538 FEL W/ backhoe. Will be pulling with my Toyota Tundra... don稚 want to messs with Ramps if I don稚 have to. Plus the added bonus of being able to load materials from the sides and utilize stake pocket sides is appealing.

I致e looked at the Hull tilt trailer online with either manual hydraulic or electric hydraulic tilt... for the price it looks like a great deal... plus good warranty on the frame also....

Hull is moving trailers like nothing I致e seen, check out their Facebook page...

Not sure which model you're looking at but I don't like a tilt trailer that pivots in the front and lifts the front wheels off the ground. I had one similar made by H&H in the same town as Hull. (might even be made by the same mfg.) I bought it new and after 10 years had to completely rebuild the suspension and all new brakes. A front pivot trailer like mine also has the axles mounted almost dead center of the trailer bed which could lead to trailer sway problems from not enough tongue weight. I never had that problem with mine because I always made sure I had plenty of tongue weight.
I'd go for the electric / hyd tilt for sure. Mine was a manual pump hydraulic tilt which got old real quick. Pumping that cylinder a hundred times or more to get it to tilt quickly wears out your arms. For about $600. I bought a 12V power hyd unit, cylinder and hose and converted mine to power up and gravity down within the first two weeks. Shortly after the repairs I sold mine and bought a 22' PJ model TF full tilt with power up / power down.

Hull used to be H&H, but H&H now is owned by an outfit out of Indiana. Hull trailers are pretty rock solid trailers. Not as many frills as some others, but well built. They are not a high volume manufacturer and can focus more on quality. I would prefer lowboy style with ramps as opposed to a tilt bed. Guess it is just a personal preference.

I love my power deck over tilting deck. I had a 16' gravity tilt that worked good, but was just to small. I looked at some bigger gravity tilt trailers, but ultimately went deck over. Gravity tilt load tractors better due to the low profile & resulting low angles. The deck over is a lot steeper, but I have no fenders to deal with. It handles loading others stuff over the sides better. No clearance issues with my wife flail mower hitting fenders either. I'd have gone with another gravity tilt if I was only moving my tractor. I went deck over because I move other stuff too. A hair harder to load the tractor on, but way easier for other stuff.

Ive seen some tilting frame trailers you jack up by a jack on the tongue. Not impressed at all. Time consuming & it puts all the weight on 1 axle when loading.

Gravity tilts are nice, but have ballance implications. The deck needs to be ballanced front & back so it tilts easy, so they pivot in the middle (and always between the axles). That means you can't put any weight on the back of the trailer & get a proper tongue weight. Most have a warning sticker on the back to that effect. They are easy to ballance though. Pivot is more or less center. So you just have to drive forward until the deck tilts down & it's ballanced. Drive forward a bit more & you get the proper 10-15% tongue weight.

Last June, I made a trip from KY to see and order a Hull Tilt gooseneck. At least that was my intent. Liked what I saw on the internet but wanted a few small changes. Thought it best to actually visit their site and discuss the options, pricing and see what we could work out. Please understand these changes were very minor and did not involve anything structural. Regardless, I found Hull to be less than accommodating. You either take the options they offer or not. I asked why my minor requests would not be considered and was told that any changes would require the supervisor to be standing there the whole time to ensure I would get exactly what I wanted. Huh???? The Operations Manager was not going even try and make any changes. An example would be that I wanted the hydraulics lower on the gooseneck upright than the location they "always" put them. I wanted additional lighting, the Op. Mgr. said that might be possible but he wasn't wild about the idea. :confused2: I'm standing there thinking to myself, does this guy want to build me a trailer or not..............

Left me with the opinion that his work force was very limited and apparently not trustworthy to interpret changes. Had a certified welder with me who looked at their finished trailers on the lot. He said they did a pretty good job on all the welds he inspected so, I won't challenge that. He went over the trailers I was considering pretty well. Pricing was fixed with no negotiation, what the Operations Manager said was his bottom line. I guess that's alright but when I went to the H&H production facility I got a warm welcome. H&H does not sell through that facility but only sells through it's dealer network. Visited an H&H dealer later and found them to be competitive in pricing and much easier to work with. I left knowing that when I bought the trailer I wanted, if it was only between the two companies we're talking about, it would definitely be from H&H and not Hull.

Just giving you my honest opinion based on my experience there. Had the Operations Manager at Hull been more receptive to my desires, he would have had an order that day. Needless to say, I bought somewhere else.

I have been looking at Hull for a dump trailer and have seen a few around and seem to be well built.

Based on my experience and observations, they build a pretty good trailer. Just don't ask for anything different that what they already do.

Not intending to flag them, just not impressed with the rigidity on what they are willing to do. As a cash paying customer, I want what I want. Deny me that and I'll go somewhere else to get what I want. Which is precisely what I did.

Not surprised, those were options they offered. Just don't go off the menu...

Yeah, Hull left a bad taste in my mouth. Won't go back. Had cash in my pocket that day and all that got accomplished was me leaving intent to buy a trailer somewhere else, anywhere but Hull. Just giving those interested my honest opinion.
