I have an HPX diesel with 4 hours. It has been working just great. Yesterday I was in 4WD in some light snow. I came out of the snow and stopped and switched out of 4WD. I started to move and heard a loud grinding noise. Sounded like it was coming from the front right. Didn't sound good at all. I moved the 4WD lever a bit even though it was in a solid 2WD mode. The noise went away. Tried 4WD and back to 2WD and the noise came back. Move the lever a bit and it stopped the noise. I have an e-mail into my dealer. Seems like some linkage issue? Anyone else have such a problem? It seems like the issue occurs if you push down to 2WD mode too far. I found the noise went away if you lift up on the lever just a bit in 2WD mode.

Craig,

I don't have a HPX but it does sound like linkage. Your dealer should fix this for you (or at least provide directions on how to check/adjust yourself).

I agree, it sounds like a linkage problem. It would appear that it's not fully disengaging 4WD and grinding the gears. The only time my HPX grinds is if I try to engage 4WD when the rear wheels are slipping a little. There's a little extra gear noise when 4WD is engaged but nothing unusual.

Service at my Dealer got my E-mail and called me yesterday to say they were looking into my problem. Called me this morning before I left for work. They researched the issue with Deere and found a service bulletin that described the problem. It's related to an adjustment with the 4WD linkage. They are sending someone out to my house this week to adjust it. Dealer said it was the first time they had such an issue on an HPX. Bulletin says if one has the issue to get it serviced soon to prevent damage to front transaxle.

I traced the linkage last evening and found that the linakage attaches to the front transaxle. It appear the front drive shaft is live all the time and 4WD engages at the front transaxle.

Glad to hear they're taking care of it for you.
Sounds like a good dealer if they'll come to you house and fix in the same week.
