Hi All

Thanks for having me, I am a city boy gone bad and have recently taken on the task of sorting out our family farm. My father was a hoarder and with 9 hectares of space at his disposal there is much to sort through.

The MF 148 has become my best friend we do everything together but I want to learn more about my new best friend.

I don't have an owners manual, workshop manual or experience with tractors but I am doing my best.

I have tried YouTube and searched the web for information and found TractorByNet

Hope I have come to the wright place im looking forward to splitting my new best friend MF 148 and sorting out a clutch problem I think.

Regards

Paul

If the tractor is similar in construction to the MF65, there was an adjustment for the clutch pedal on the transmission.
On the old MF65, the foot pedal bracket just bolted to the operating shaft without any locking device (pin, keyway etc.) and over time moved and affected the pedal movement. It happens slowly so there would be no obvious change.
Out of desperation I decided to adjust the one on the old MF65 I ha, and boy, what a difference. There is a simple straight forward procedure and it makes a huge difference. I don't know if this is your problem or not, but this adjustment is needed from time to time. I painted witness marks on the clutch pedal bracket to show relative movement.

The www.tradebit site is a payment required arrangement. I believe it is $8.95 for the complete manual download (30Mb of data).

Anyhow, if you are new to tractors etc. these two websites might be of some help to you.

Hi All

A very warm welcome thanks

I will check out the recommended sites, with regard to adjusting the clutch I have the 2" of play at top and I had a mechanic check it out today and as far as he was concerned the thrust bearing is noisy but the clutch has good grab. So we are not going to split my good friend in two just yet.

The gears are a bit crunchy going in but the mechanic told me this was normal I am not so sure about that thus would rather get the manuals and make my own assessment.

Check out the fluids and change them all out. You can see what comes out when you drain the respective oils - any metal chips, shavings etc. will soon be evident. Doing the normal maintenance - even if not yet required, will leave you knowing the basics have been covered.
