New Holland tc30
Hello ya'll!!! I am new here and very much appreciate this site for the genuine knowledge that i have learned thus far! I've got a 2001 TC30 That I am going to fix up to eventually replace my 51 8N... I've included pictures with links so that you all might see the disaster I am starting with!!! LOL....first and foremost, I got it to run this weekend!! Everything works the best that I can tell...well, except the 4WD...I am not exactly sure if it works or not! I made a few passes with a 5 foot shredder and it seemed fine!
I bought this from a farmer whom got it from a insurance salesman that he knew...It was a "total" claim by them. It was involved in a barn fire and the best that I can tell, the rear half of the tractor seems to be the only casualty. SO....without further adeu, I am looking for body pieces to restore this little guy like new. I will post pics of my everyday progress for all to see!!!

Thanks for any help...

Chris

Congratulations Chris. That's sure a "fixer-upper." I hope you got it for a song and don't end up singin' the blues before you get it fixed. From your description, it sounds like you are well on your way to getting it back working mechanically. The FWD should be a transfer box on the bottom of the transmission that has a shifter to engage a sliding gear inside the box. Unless the driveshaft is missing, it should be a simple check to find if it is working or not.

Jinman...there is a slide lever in the left side middle of tranny, it moves real easy but I can't tell that it engages anything...the driveshaft for the front always turns no matter what I do...is it not supposed to in 2wd?? Also there is a foot lever on the same side rear that I have no idea of either...:-/

Here's how I would check out the 4WD engagement. It may be a rookie's method, but it should work. I'd jack up the front end so both front tires are off the ground (on jackstands would be best). With the engine shut off, put the transmission in first gear. Select 4wd with your lever and then go to the front of the the tractor. With the wheels in the air, try to rotate both tires at once in the same direction. On a tractor as narrow as the TC30 you should be able to reach both tires when you are standing in front of the tractor. If 4wd is engaged, you will not be able to rotate the tires in the same direction at the same time. Now disenagage 4wd and see if the front tires spin freely in the same direction.

I'd bet the foot lever is for differential lock. Mine is on the left side and at the rear of the operator's platform beside the seat.

Ok...but that's just it...I am not sure which lever engages the 4wd....this tractor was in a fire so there are no labels, colors or panels...I've figured out the pto lift, pto engage, 3 speed movements in forward and reverse...and thanks for the diff lock!!! That's exactly what that is...:)...oh!! And the mid pto too!! I've figured out which one that is....soooo I think the 4wd lever is on the left hand side floorboard...it moves back and forth real easy but still not sure if that's the engagement...is yours there??

My tractor is much larger and is a "deluxe" model, so the levers are quite different, but I've copied a parts diagram that clearly shows your FWD lever. In the illustration below, it is item #10. It attaches to a shaft, item #17 and drives the shifter fork, item #18. This should help you locate/identify your correct lever even if it is burned.

Thank you for the help. Last night I put together a seat bracket for it and will try to install the seat tonight. I will post pics up of my progress...you guys might enjoy it as I've used the original seat plate and combined it with a John Deere seat!!!.lol!! They are parts that I had here so I'm going to use them to save some cash. The factory parts for the seat were right at 1000 bucks new!!! soooo you all will just have to forgive me!!! LOL....After the install of seat, I will be a little more comfy to fully test drive (vs the short drive I did on a pillow!!!!) this thing and will post on that 4wd lever....one question...can you shift to 4WD "on the fly"?? or do you have to stop, engage and then move??
