Howdy Folks

Just thought I'd get my feet wet & introduce myself along with finding out if there was very many Massey 200 series owners out there that would help a new guy around the site.

I've had my massey for about a year now & so far all has been well with the exception of the FEL mounting bolts coming loose in few spots while working it hard as a backhoe for which it was not intended to do.

Cheers

Welcome to TBN,
The MF 263 is my favorite tractor in its horsepower range. It's a very strong, well built tractor with a low center of gravity. Glad to see another Massey owner. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks for the welcome.

So far its been a good lil tractor that can handle some rough bushhogging in steep places & doesnt mind to haul dirt all day - the thing I like so far is it only sips fuel for the amount of work it can do in a full day.

I do one question I'd like to throw in my first post.

Any other owners have this tractor with a Bush Hog brand loader? And also do you have as much trouble as I do getting the air filter out as the FEL right side mount is right in the way of taking the filter out and the only way to get it out is to bend the air filter.

off to the archives & read up on the old posts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

I am in the market for a new/used smaller footprint tractor with 50 hp or so. We currently have a higher horsepower New Holland, and utility Kubota, but need a smaller tractor for around the house but want enough hp to use it elsewhere on the farm. I have been looking at the mf461, but I am concerned that it is made in Turkey and has only been out for a few months. How did you get a new 263 in 2004, and what can you tell me about it as far as performance etc.? Was it made in Great Britain? Any help you can give me would be great.

Hey Guys.

Sorry for the long delay but I've had diesel truck fever for a while & havent gotten to play with the farm tractor much other than a lil hogging.

As far as loader cycle speed, theres a lever by the seat to direct all hydraulics to the loader remotes & its smoking fast & smooth.

The MF was ordered by me thru a local dealer & a search was put out & one was found on another dealers lot & they worked out a trade similar to what car dealers do for vehicles. It was made overseas in England to the best of my knowledge.

As far as performance, its sweet! has plenty of grunt, sips fuel, fairly quiet, all handles seem easy to reach & takes a beating with a smile, steers very easily with those 300/70 R20 front tires.

The only drawbacks I've seen to date is the 4wd indicator sensor is mounted low on the rear & gets beat on pretty bad, also the battery has a vent that didnt come with a tube which will allow any overflow down the side fo the trans & will eat up the plastic looming covering the wires. (this was fixed pronto) & the already mentioned tough air filter to get out problem with the loader.

I put some bucket teeth & side cuting edges on the bucket the other day to help with stiffening up the sides of the bucket & to ease with grubbing all the small tress on my place.

My main thought on purchasing one of this older style was I was scared of the "plastic" tractors with plastic hoods, fenders & so on & I didnt care much for the "aerodynamic" look.

To be honest though, after trying out a New Holland TN series, the sloped off hoods do improve visibilty. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The MF 263 is my favorite tractor in that hp range. I wish that they were still making them.

The town I work for just bought a 461 and it runs great. It is supposedly the 263. I personally like the 451 better made in Brazil and if I could get my hands on a 471 my farm tractors would be complete.
