Rake How wet is too wet for a rockhound/landscape rake?

Hi Folks,

I'm thinking about renting a rockhound this weekend to groom our new front yard a bit before i seed it (it's just clean fill that has been dozered now). We had some rain two days ago and the soil is still a little damp. We have a chance for precip today but sunny all weekend.

The main question i have is how wet is too wet for the rockhound. We have _extremely_ high clay content in our soil, so i'm worried about the tines just getting loaded up and start shucking dirt clods into the trap.

Any ideas or suggestions?

With the clays we have here there is almost no such thing as to dry. You eat dust when its bone dry, but the material is much more workable.

It can be wet, but that makes it harded to turn the drum and the loose material comes off in small chunks instead of powder.
If it was a previously worked piece of clay land, its even more important to be dry, any amount of water in the last couple day would make the lossened clay stick to the attachment. Of course this is based on our clays and yours mat or may not be simular

That's what i was thinking. Clays are pretty bad here, too. I'm stuck b/c i can't wait much longer or we'll have to plant in the spring, and i have a nice long weekend. I might just give it a shot and see how it goes.
