I (finally) finished insulating the attic floor in my 30X32 garage/shop right before the cold weather hit. The side and back walls have foam insulation against the concrete. The garage is built into a bank, so perhaps a bit more insulation there.
Insulated garage door as well.
The garage typically hovers right around 45 degrees. If its really cold out, in the teens or even single digits at night, the garage hasn't gone below 40. If I am working out there, I kick the electric heater on for a bit and it gets up to 50-55 pretty quickly, and holds it well. Good temp for me putzing around.

Anyone else? Just curious....and no wise cracks from the guys in Miami, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, etc..

As a canuck this I work in Celcius, last week it was -35C and my shop was 10 degrees. So in Def F that would be -31 and 50

I have a gas radiant that only comes on if i open the bay door

I have a woodstove in my 28x28 garage. When stove is not in use garage hovers around 40-45 degrees when the cold really hits. It is insulated with an insulated garage door. When I run the stove it's anywhere between 68-78 degrees depending on how hard I push the stove. I'm Maryland BTW

I have a similar setup and have a boiler in a connected garage so it stays in the 50's most of the time with an occasional spike in the 60's.

My brothers shop rains more inside than outside. If it is 50 deg outside it is 35 inside. In the summer 75 deg outside, 85-90 deg inside  He is in the process of building a new shop on some lane he purchased. Were going down today to try out a cat 303.5 we purchased that seams like it was to good of a deal to be true :D

it's 45 in my shop now,
(only cuz it's 45 outside today!)

this shop i just purchased is insulated, but big,
40x60 with at least 16' ceilings. one of the
previous owners had heat in there, there's
a thermostat and i see an outlet for an exhaust
pipe up near the eave. i think he had some sort
of furnace, could have been waste oil as it was
a truck repair type shop.

so i am contemplating some form of heat for when
i go out there, which isn't an awful lot in winter, but
if i have to work on a sled or vehicle it would be
great to have it a little warmer, but that means
heating the whole thing for that period of time.

Attached 2.5 car garage stays about 10 degrees warmer than ambient.

Shop is detached, unheated, and seems even colder than ambient. :D

I have a 30x30 that I heat with wood. But only when I am out there. I work a 3-4-4-3 work schedule. So when I am on my 3 or 4 days to work, and it is cold outside, it will get down to 35-40 out there.

But on my 3-4 days off, I start a fire in the barrel stove. A good hot fire combined with an oil drip set-up, and I can go from 35-65 in about an hour:thumbsup: even when it is single digits out.

For working out there though, I dont like it much above 65. Otherwise it is too hot with a t-shirt on when working.
