The method I was taught when I served as a dealer service manager for installing hyd fitting pictured above was to turn fitting into housing so as o-ring was close to washer lining up fitting with hyd pipe/tube then tighten nut pushing washer against o-ring. Be sure fitting is installed deep enough into housing so washer is far enough away from housing that washer won't bind in land on fitting when nut is tightened. Fitting not deep enough in housing can distort washer & cause o-ring to fail.

There's a o ring so you can angle that fitting any direction you want. Back out the nut, put the fitting in and angle it correctly, then tighten the nut. No need to run the pump prior.

ok, so far I'm getting a lot og great information here And I appreciate it. One last question.
This is part #, 90° MALE ADAPTER, 1.06”–12 ORB X 3/4”–16 JIC.
Is "-12" in the part # above the "DASH SIZE" on this chart https://www.surpluscenter.com/images/techhelp/ORFS.pdf
If so the torque foot pounds would be 65-70. Is that correct.
I don't want to mess this up.

12 is the dash size, BUT the chart you linked to is for ORFS, not ORB. From John Deere's loader manual, the torque spec for 12 (3/4") ORB fitting is 34lb Ft.

Surplus center's chart makes NO SENSE to me; the dash # in hydraulics is in 1/16" increments, so a -12 is 12/16". or 3/4" (tube/hose size) - here's a chart that does NOT try to tell me a -24 is 3/4"

The fittings you have are already confusing enough, going by several names - ORB, O-Ring Boss, SAE - but O ring FACE seal is NOT one of 'em.

Yup, just be sure you understand the "wet torque" info on the Surplus site and you're good to go... Steve
In all honesty, I've never had an ORB fitting leak and always just tightened til it "feels right", but I've been doing this kind of stuff for 60 years, so my "feels right" tends to be fairly well calibrated :laughing:
