I noticed that my relatively new to me 250 gal diesel storage tank hose/pump assembly is leaking where the hose threads onto the pump handle (I have a Tuthill Fill-Rite Fuel Transfer Pump — 12 Volt, 15 GPM, Model# FR1210CANT attached). When I first installed this pump/handle assembly, I used teflon tape thread sealer, but noting that this is still causing some minor diesel staining/leaking, I saw that the local gas QuikTrip gas station uses some sort of grey sticky substance to seal their hose threads to their pump handles. Does anyone know what this stuff is or are there other suggestions out there for what sealing stuff to use?

Permatex pipe dope would be my choice. It's black and goes on like thick tooth paste. If you're going to get some get the non-hardening formula. Pretty sure Auto Zone sells it.

I'd say pipe dope too, I use the "Blue" stuff with teflon in it, lay on a good layer and tighten her up, then wipe of the excess - should do it......

Thanks, guys. Is the black or blue pipe dope any different from the white dope that I have used previously in water plumbing applications (that I already have some of...)?

Read the label. My white pipe dope claimed to be compatable with petroleum.

Some paste-type pipe dope has teflon and is very resistant to almost everything (and is better than teflon tape). Some does not and is only good for some applications.

This is all I have ever used working with diesel fuel and it works great (I think this is what others are talking about here)...

Read specs HERE

The only thing I could say to you, make sure you do not get any of the sealant near the opening of the fittings where it could enter the fuel. After time this stuff dose get hard as a rock, but don't worry it is still very easy to remove (flakes off of fittings when need be or use of a wire brush)
