How to repair a leaking hydraulic cylinder

I have this backhoe vt2s model. How would you go about fixing a cylinder (swing cyl.) that looks to be leaking at the seal? I posted a pic of the bucket cylinder but it is actually the swing.

Remove the cylinder, remove the gland and the seal from the rod end, replace the damaged seal, replace the gland and re-install the cylinder. As long as you have it apart, you might want to replace the piston seals also. After removing the gland and old seal remove the rod and piston and replace the piston seals and the rod seal then reasaemble the unit and re-install the cylinder.

If it was mine, I'd remove the cylinder and take it to a good local hydraulic repair shop! Call a local dozer/grading contractor and ask them what hydraulic shop they would recommend.

They aren't bad to do on your own. I can do one in 20 mins by myself. That's a lot bigger one off a Dozer too. I usually have to put heat to the nut to get it loose also. If you have a vice, torch. Pipe wrench with cheater and wrenches you can do it yourself.

thanks guys. somehow it started leaking when i was taking out this pine tree stump... dug around it completely about 4 ft down, cut all horizontal roots, then used a pressure washer through the underside to remove the dirt, cut all the vertical roots and it popped right out.
