Can anyone help me figure out how to get this busted roll pin out of my tooth bar so I can replace the tooth? It's 20 y.o. so it must be super rusted on. I tried hammer and punch, but that didn't work, partly because I can't get a straight shot because of the teeth on either side. I tried drilling it out but just tore up the standard drill bit. Is there some type of drill bit for hardened steel? I tried driving a sheet metal screw into it to lever it out and that just stripped the threads off the screw. So... any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

What's wrong with that tooth. Still looks to be in pretty good shape. Otherwise - hit the pin/tooth with a torch. I'd use a hand propane torch. It just might break the rust loose. Something about that pic just doesn't look right. I guess it's that I've never seen a tooth retaining pin that far forward on a removable tooth. Must be one heck of a base tooth underneath.

That's the shank the tooth fell off I'm guessing.....:)

Spray "Blaster" will dissolve or loosen rust with 48 hours of soak. Spray several times during soak. Blaster is all solvent.

Make sure the pin punch is the correct diameter at the tip.

The pin is steel, as steel rusts it increases in volume.

The increase in volume of the pin really locks the pin in place,,

Lets see,, the original tooth lasted twenty years,,
Where will you be twenty years from now, when the tooth needs replaced again?

Probably you will not be worrying a lot about that toothbar,, so, that offers another fix.
Simply weld the new tooth to the holder, forget about pinning the tooth in place.

That pin system is for people that wear out teeth every 2-3 years,,

Weld it,, and enjoy all the skin that will be saved on your knuckles, not trying to fight that pin.

I can't make sense of the picture either.

My bucket pins are in rubber I think.

I would use a punch with a hydraulic cylinder. Like an Enerpac thingie.

First thing is if you have flared the end of pin it's never going to come out....

Grind pin flush with surface and use proper diameter punch...

If heat (I’d use oxy/acetylene) and the usual solvents don’t work, try soaking with nitric acid for a few hours.
