555c backhoe
Hey guys, I need a little help just like the rest. I have a Ford 555c backhoe that I recently purchased. I went ahead and was going through it and decided to change the fuel filter and tighten some fittings on the injector pump; that's when I opened Pandora's box! Since then I have:
*Replaced fuel filter
*Cleaned primary
*Replaced throttle shaft and O-rings because it sheared off (yeah, I over tightened)
*Replaced fuel tube on top of pump- threads had been reamed off.
*Replaced check valve on injection pump
**Filled fuel filter and primary and bled from top of both by loosing and tightening small bolt on top of both
**Loosened fuel lines to bleed at top of engine one at a time while using palm pump

The engine ran great before I started but I can not get fuel to begin to squirt or drip out of any line at top of engine.
I have tightened everything and sprayed ether in air filter --it would turn over and try to run but never pick fuel up.
No fuel leaks now and I can feel/hear pressure from palm pump.

What am I missing?

Sounds like you still have air in the lines going to the injectors. The air in the lines is being compressed and relaxed, but pressure doen't get high enough to pop open the injectors and supply fuel to the cylinders.

Assuming you have purged all the air up thru the injector pump, loosen connections at All of the injectors. With throttle reved up, turn engine over continuously until only fuel is escaping at the injector connections. Tighten fittings on at a time while still cranking. Engine should start to run on each cyclinder as the connections are being tighted.

Is there a way to purge at the injector?

Not sure I understand your question.

Purging at the injector is what I described. It uses the injection pump (high pressure but low volume) to force any remaining air in the lines from the pump out thru the injector fitting. The procedure is similar on every diesel engine I have ever had (3 tractors, 1 car, 1 truck). The only vent point downstream of the pump is at the injector connection.

I was unsure if there might have been a bolt, similar to what is on the fuel filter, that could be loosened to allow air to escape at the injector pump. I did do as you stated above and still no fuel escaping/bleeding out the end of the injection lines. Even at where the injection lines attach to the injection pump I have loosed those to see if fuel would bleed out of there when turning the engine over but I get nothing. I really appreciate you hanging in there with me on this; really got me scratching my head on this my issue.

Where are you getting fuel to? The filter, pump? Try to follow his steps and let the pump do the work. If you have fuel to the pump, but not after I wonder if pump is not working properly.

Did you have switch on when manually priming using the priming pump? Switch needs to be in run position to open the fual shutoff solenoid. Make sure the solenoid is working properly.
