I just bought a 25 gallon Fimco boom sprayer for my 2007 Polaris 500 Sportsman. The sprayer came with alligator clips to attach to the battery. Never having even seen my battery, I looked today. Hooking clips to it looks fairly inconvenient. Is there accessory circuit or place to get power without accessing the battery compartment? Or can I have one added so the hook up is quick and convenient? How do you guys do this?

On my JD lawn mower. I ran 16 guage wire in wire loom to the back of the mower, and terminated it in a 2 conductor plug very similiar to the typical 4 wire trailer bullet connector plug. of course make the exposed bullet on the tractor/ATV side (hot side) the ground. and I also put an 5 amp in line fuse holder right at the battery. The plug is fairly conveinant to use, and holds securely. I greased the plugs on both the mower and the sprayer to try to prevent corroision.

I was lucky. My Suzuki has a 12 cigarette style port. I just switched out the clips for a cigarette adapter.

Like K0ua said get, the dual bullet connector plug, sometimes called an SAE plug. I buy the ones that Deltran makes for the Battery Tender. They have eyelets that go on the battery bolts and a fuse. You can use it for the tender, sprayer or some of the heated motorcycle riding suits extensions are also available. My one Fimco sprayer actually has this connector on the pigtail comming off the pump.

I found it convenient to use a plug connector wired to the tail light. Then when the sprayer was attached, just turning on the lights from the dash powered the 12v sprayer pump.

On my newer tractor, I have the 12v outlet with switch.

I used the same type 2 pole connector on my ATV for a sprayer, it also makes a convenient point to attach a battery charger. I just leave it dangling out right under the edge of the seat. I picked mine up at the local WalMart in the boating/fishing section- sold as trolling motor connectors.

Most atvs now have a 12v outlet plug-in receptacle. I buy a 12v extension cord that will plug into the outlet. These are the coiled type that will extend and rectract as needed and will extend out to near 6'. Cut off the plug on the other end and wire on a simple 2 prong connector just like on the femco sprayer. You can find both at an auto parts store. Now it is easy to plug and unplug the sprayer. I can use the same setup for my atv or Teryx side by side. Most of the cords will have their own fuse for protection. Usually a very low voltage. On sprayers with larger pumps, I will change the fuse on the cord to a higher voltage or occassionally it will burn out the fuse.

My 12v receptacle is near the front of the atv. It is much better to climb on the atv and swing my leg over the cord rather than under the cord. If I place the cord over my leg, I forget about it when I get off, my leg will pull the cord and subsequently pull the connections apart.

Thats a type of anderson powerpole, also an excellent connector. I believe that one is about a 100 amp connector. might be a little more connector than he needs for just that sprayer, most of them draw less than 5 amps at 13.8 volts. Another type he could use, is the smaller Anderson Powerpoles. Available at West Mountain Radio and other 2 way radio outlets. I use them a lot in my radio hobby.. Now he has lots of choices of connectors:D

As CaptPicky says. My 2006 800 Polaris Sportsman has a cigarette plug. I cut the alligator clips off and installed a male cigarette plug from Radio Shack. If you do it this way the sprayer pump will only have power when the ignition switch is turned on.
