I am trying to help my widowed neighbor by fixing her tractors PTO shift cable. I got the top part off easily (well not so easily since I had to move the seatbelt to get to it) by just pulling a cotter pin. The bottom side where it fits to the PTO shifter at the transmission does not have a cotter pin, just a little bump on the shaft that is holding on a washer. I really cant see much since it is so far up behind some other lines. Before I start to pull all the floor boards and other sheet metal off so I can see more maybe someone here has done this before.

Does anyone know what is holding the bottom of the shift cable on? It almost feels like a ball like would hold a socket on to a ratchet but I really cant see it well enough to tell.

Well I gave up on getting the old cable off and decided to just try adjusting it a bit. I finally got it to work one time, so I returned the tractor to Bess(the owner). I even tried to remove the cover plate under the seat, but I would have had to remove the seat to get it off. I just put all the bolts back in and left it at that. She is think of selling it anyway so maybe it will work for her.
