My LTR is 15years old I bag 1 acre once a week most of the year and an other 2 wooded acres mulching. Also haul wood in a trailer. Estimated Hrs are over 1500.
Outside deck belts, timing belts, one drive belt and the usual oil and filters I did rebuild the transmission following the thread on this site by Lotsofgrass. When I had the transmission out added drain plug and moved the reservoir to on top of the wing.
Major problems that threaten its long live are:
Timing belt: I have noticed that when tensioning up the arm bottoms out well before full tension is achieved, also keeper roller needed to be removed because it was constantly rubbing on the belt. My conclusion is that the aluminium toothed wheels (sprockets) are worn and a new set should put the belt back where is was design to be. Parts for this amount to over $250. Low tensioned tooth belt means I have not broken belts for over 5 years but suffer frequent need to retime the blades. Anybody found the same condition?
Deck drive belt: This seems to be slipping very easily causing me to slow down to ensure that lower blade speed does not result in clogging. The belt has "eaten" a big chunk out of the timing cover. Don't know if this is normal or if the belt tension, worn parts are to blame. Any feed back on this or is this a case of "if it isn't brook don't fix it"?
Engine speed: Over the last few years I seem to be running slower (see above) but I read somewhere that JD had to slow the engines down to get past EU noise regs. Is this true? How can I check and correct?
Looking forward to your comments
