How to get key out of ignition!

Hi,

I cant get the key out of the ignition. I just bought a ford 3600 series tractor.
I would really appreciate some help!

Is the key bent or broken off in the cylinder? Or, has it just not been removed in a long time?
If the key is still intact, try a shot of spray lubricant into the key slot, wait a short time and GENTLY wiggle the key in a circular motion as you pull straight back. Do not apply direct side to side pressure as this can break the key.
If all the above is not possible( broken key in slot) then you can always remove the switch and let a locksmith take care of the problem. He will also be able to make you a replacement key.

You have to push a button before you can remove the key from my 1989 Nissan pick up.
Check for something like that.

Ford key locks aren't that advanced.. a flat screwdriver or flat nail will turn every one I've ever seen on a thousand series tractor that used the common ford key. same key that starts my 75 ford 5000 starts my 2000 NH 7610s...

if it's rusted in the bore and won't come out.. you can either leave it like it is and think of it as a toggle switch.. or just repalce the key/cyl.. CNh dealer has em on the shelf.

no need for a locksmith for that type of ag-ignition setup...

penetrant oil like pb blaster may help... all depends on how long the key's been in there...

Also make sure that the key is in the correct "off" position when you are trying to remove it. It won't remove in any other position.

clean the key up and re-lube the lock before letting them snuggle again..

Careful on how you lube these things up. Certain products will crud them up faster than if you just let them be.

There is a specific lube made just for lock cyl's. I'd spray clean it with carb or brake cleaner.. then hit it with some crc electronic cleaner.. then a shot of lock cyl lube... ( usually graphite based and greaseless.).
