I made a post a week ago about my oil pressure being low. I do think the stock pressure guage was all wrong, and I replaced it with a sunpro guage and copper pressure line. When you first crank it up, the pressure is almost 50psi. As it warms up, the pressure at idle goes down, but the rev'ed pressure goes up to around 50 or so. I had turned the set screw down by the oil filter all the way in, thinking that would raise the oil pressure, but while bushhogging, it dropped to 25 psi, 10 or 15 at idle! I screwed it out then, thinking maybe that was restricting flow and I had it backwards. The tractor had cooled some, but it idled at about 25 psi then. What is the pressure supposed to be and do I have it the right way now or is there a problem?

Not 100% sure on a diesle but on a car it is ~7 PSI per 1000 RPM, MIN. and they say much more than 10~15 PSI per 1000 RPM is robbing HP from the engine. I would think that 20 PSI / 1000 RPM is plenty as long as it stays above 10 PSI at idle.

Just as car experiance not for diesel engine work but I think they should be similar...

Well,,,first of all,,I think you made a mistake adjusting on it,,,I mean it seems you don't know how to do it?Second, the hotter the oil,the lower the pressure,,it thins down,,should stop at a certain point,,,when I first start mine in winter,,its almost in the to high zone,,but comes down real quick,,,the oil gage is how I warm mine up to before running,,in summer,[now],it will read at a certain point untill water temp reaches about 140,,than it will fall,,thats when I go,,,,if it had a warrenty,,adjusting the oil pressure probably voided it,,,was it running alright? Heck,,I believe in that old saying that if it ain't broke, don't fix it,,,if it was running alright, than why get all shook up over what a little gage said....And what did your dealer say,,,if I had thought my oil pressure was not what it should have been,,I would have talked to northern at once,,,thingy

oh wanted to say: mine is running 10~40 diesel fleet oil, it has ~60 PSI cold idle, and 30~40 warm idel, warm running 50~60. very cold it is 100+ cold running to warm it up around 1200 rpm

Well, I adjusted it because the oil pressure was at zero. Or so the guage said. I adjusted it first, then replaced the guage. It wasnt at zero, but it was close. I am pretty sure its good now, since its higher, I was just trying to ask people who knew how to do it.

I recently purchased a 2425 and after a couple hours use the oil pressure went to zero. The horn sounded and almost blew me off the tractor. The oil had no viscosity. I changed the oil and filter with a 30wt deisel. No problems since then. I was told by some that this might have been a "break in" oil. This term was new to me. Check your oil is thin or does it feel like new oil. You might also check your transmission, final drive and steering for viscosity. Do not use an oil treatment in your engine until you have several hours on the engine to give your valves a chance to seat. Good Luck!

Hot 30W oil is nearly as thin as water, so "no viscosity" isn't surprising. I'd be more inclined to believe an electrical short killed the oil pressure gauge and sounded the horn at the same time. Check your wiring diagram, you'll see what I mean

The oil in the tractor when cold had no viscosity. The horn sounding was an alarm built in to notify of a possible problem, no short, After changing oil and filter pressure is fine both hot and cold.

You're going to have to explain to me your definition of "viscosity". And I'd be very very interested in seeing the wiring diagram of your FarmPro. Or is this horn thing a post-purchase modification?

yes: not heard of any aftermarket add ons like the horn blowing if low oil pressure, or else they would sound every time you turned the key on with out starting the engine, (though that may be nice for leaving the key ON and not being on the tractor don't ask how I know of this /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

viscosity is a measurement and refers to how well or lack there of for an oil to FLOW. Higher the Number the more resistance to FLOW it has. lower the # the easier to flow.
