Any idea how much weight you can put in one of these crossover toolboxes? It's not that I want to test the limits, just that I have no idea and nothing is mentioned anywhere. Mine was made in 2007 and pic below. Any help welcome.

Nice looking box. I was going to put one in the Taco Wagon. Then I realized - I couldn't even reach into the bed of the truck. I'd NEVER be able to reach into a crossover.

If the manufacturer is still in business - call and see what they say.

I had a crossover in my Ford F150. I increased its weight carry capacity considerably. With treated 4x4's I built three shims. They went under the box - about a foot in from each side and one in the middle. Screw the box down tight to the side rails - kept the shims in place. Let the bed of the truck carry the weight - not so much the side rails.

i wouldn't be concerned about weight at all.

Spread out I've carried upwards of 300 pounds in them. Mostly depends upon 2-3 things
1st the gauge of the metal and the quality of the hinges and latches.
2nd the trucks suspension, stiffer suspension delivers more shock
3rd the roads or terrain where you drive

I've one. Probably depends on the mfr. I kept mine loaded with tools in my F350 at times and could stand on it with no discernible effect.

Great idea that I--duh--didn't think of. I just called them and was shocked that they said 500 lbs! Who knew? That is amazing but for them to say that they have had to test it for that.

I guess I'll be good with chains, binders, 5 gallons of diesel, miscellaneous and then a few gold bars.

Thank you.

That's OK sixdogs. If you run out of capacity in that crossover ( either space or weight ) - I'll carry the gold bars.

I would have NEVER guessed 500 pounds. Then - the shims I put under mine were unnecessary.

@sixdogs You might want to check what the bed rails in your truck can take if you are planning to stash the full 500lbs in it. I like @oosik's under box support. Bumps seem to be a fact of life for me in a pickup, and I have friends that have crunched their bed rails doing stupid things and the repairs weren't cheap.

All the best,

Peter

I’d be surprised if the bed rails didn’t buckle before the box did. Boxed in plate like the box is constructed with is really strong.
