I have a Ford 1210 Compact, about 2000 pounds or a little more with a 754 backhoe and an FEL. The total weight is about 4000#. I've been moving some rip rap and the tractor seems to handle it but wonder if I should disconnect the backhoe. It's frame mounted. It does keep the rear wheels on the ground. Also, any advice on how to get some finer points on backhoe operation. Not much on the internet except to buy some books. I think I have the safety stuff figured out but not too sure on efficient use. I'm going to dig some shallow ditches, a couple feet and dig a water garden but not too big. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

rooftrussman:

I would keep the BH on for ballast at this point. It is keeping your rears on the ground. I can not help you with suggestions on the operation of a BH. I want one, but really do not need one, and I would have to justify the purchase with "She Who Must Be obeyed/Comptroller". Jay
