Pretty straight forward title. I greased the 60D deck on my 1025R over the weekend. There does not seem to be any way to see grease coming out. There is a sleeve over the bottom portion of the spindles. How much grease do you pump in? I did 10 then turned the deck over and didn't see any grease so I added 10 more pumps each. Then I noticed there was no where for the grease to come out....

Don't want to see grease coming out.. means you have broken the seals.

Put in 2-3 pumps a year and figure it good. 10 pumps should last a few years now.

I only put 3 or 4 pumps in. I can’t remember the greasing interval but it should be in the manual. I might do mine a couple times a year.

I have the JD 72 inch 7 Iron deck. In the manual it says to grease after every 25 hours of operation. I grease the deck after every 3 cuttings approx. 5 hrs. When I had a single shot grease gun I would put in 13 shots in each of the spindle bearings. I was always looking for a full pack on the spindle where it could throw out and be comfortable full as it operated. This is from memory but on my other JD 60 inch deck I had to replace a spindle and bearings and I think there was only one upper seal and a labyrinth seal on the lower bearing. My thought was the hub should be filled at each greasing. I have 16 years on the deck with no spindle problems yet. The tensioner pulley just failed last year but it was non greaseable. I still have the original belt. I just replace the 4 caster wheels this spring. I had previously replaced 3 of the caster wheels. This spring I also replace the drive shaft yoke half to the mid PTO on the tractor. The female splines on the yoke were starting to wear. That's all I know.

You just as well use none because all it’s doing is going inside the spindle cavity not the bearings.

FINALLY - a dry day. I greased my JD 570 riding mower. A couple pumps for each zerk. Once a year. I just wish the zerks on the deck spindles were a tad easier to get at. This 'ol bod isn't as limber as it use to be.

The object here is that if you keep the spindle cavity full of grease, water and dirt won't get in. The bearing will be guaranteed to have grease and it will stay cooler.

The cavity being full is the only potential of greasing the bearings especially the top one but the problem is once it’s full more grease will push the bearing seals out.

I thought there was only a top bearing seal/ running seal/ and the bottom seal is just a labyrinth arrangement/ no contact seal, only a air gap. That's where the comfortable full comment comes from. When operating the arrangement is able to expel the grease that it does not want and or need.
