I have a JD790 with 419 loader and wonder what amount I can lift with the bucket. I don't think it's very much and the owner's manual is confusing.

They give different amounts and "breakaway" numbers and I don't understand. How much weight can I lift in the bucket without doing any damage. Not that I would overdo it anyway but what number do I use and how much can I lift? I have a good counterweight on the back.

Most specs that have been posted here indicate that 700-750lbs is the general use capability of the 790 FEL.

However, (there's always a condition..) - this assumes that all the cylinders are in top form and the hydraulic pressure and gpm is up to specs, too.

You generally won't "damage" anything trying to lift to much, it just won't do it as the relief valve will kick in.

Actual numbers are hard to give as there are just to many variables, like where the load is in the bucket. You could lift 800lbs of dirt, but NOT a 800lb pallet because the load is so much further forward.

The "breakout force" numbers you see quoted are the force you can get with the bucket curl action. It's typically quite a bit higher than the overall lift rating. Imagine prying a stump out of the ground using the loader curl cylinders with the rear of the loader bucket on the ground.

Lift rating is pretty much as the other guys already mentioned.

About 750#

So, if one were to increase the hydraulic pressure to 2500 PSI with the shim kit, how much would the lifting capacity increase by roughly? I know going from 2050 PSI to 2500 PSI, the increase in pressure would be about 25%. I doubt that the system works in a linear fashion so I would not expect it to increase by 1/4 of about 750lbs (or 187lbs)??? Or would it???

Yup, it's just like when you run the loader all the way up but keep holding the joystick-you will here the engine lug a little when the PRV opens.

Actually I'd expect it to be very linear.
After one pack of shims, I was able to lift 17, 60# bags of cement (about 1000 lbs), albeit slowly, with a 300 loader. SixDogs said he had a 419, and you have a 70, so there might be some differences there.

Before shims, I could barely lift the front of the tractor off the ground and only if I turned the bucket in to get the maximum leverage, now it's no problem.

I have 3 foot, 2x2 forks for my 790 FEL and I use them primarily to move and stack half ton alfalfa bales. it does take some fidgetting with the lift and angle of the FEL, but it gets one bale on top of another.
