I have just ordered a brand new JD. The dealer is telling me that he might be able to get NEW one from another dealer within the state.....quicker.....than going through the factory. (?) He says he has found a new one with 10 hrs. on it and "one little scratch". My question is how can a brand new tractor get ten hours on it? I can understand an hour or two being moved around a lot, or, for testing. but TEN? something doesn't sound right about this? I trust my dealer but my gut instinct is telling me to no on this deal. How many hours are reasonable to expect would accumulate while a tractor sits on a lot, awaiting sale? I can always check to see if the tractor has been previously titled......but that still does not answer my question about the amount of hours that would be reasonable?

Buckie,

What are you getting? . . . The 2210 get too small for you? As for the hours, it could be from demo'ing it, or it could be a tractor returned under the 30 day test drive -- if it is, the dealer is getting a significant kick-back from Deere (you should too). As for 10 hours, the tractor will still be under warranty, so that shouldn't make much difference. Maybe get him to throw in the 50 hr. servicing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

well when I got my 3120 it had ownly .7 Hrs on it .And most of the tractors that come in new have maybe 1.7 Hrs on them max. and most likely that is a demo that he showing you. That tractor is used. I work nights at john deere dealership and all I have washed and detailed are under a hour and 1.7 Hrs max.what kind of tractor is it and I can get you a est. on what is is worth.

My 4710 was 'new' but had been in another dealer's lot out of state. With however long it had sat there, by the time it was delivered to my dealer, set up, tested, and delivered to me it had something like 4.7 hours on it.

10 seems a little high but not impossible if it's been shown off a lot while at that dealer.

If it bothers you at all, just say you will wait for the new one and take it whenever it comes in.
10 hours can build up on a tractor that gets moved from dealer to dealer, and gets demo'd when new buyers want to see it run.
But in the end, it is your decision. Can't imagine 10 hours causing any problem other than the clock ran. Certainly can't wear it out in that time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'd be more worried about the scratch. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Well that certainly is a jump up in size. Are you getting a cab? I just looked at a 3720 with a cab and that bad baby almost came home with me!

I don't know how common it is but sometimes dealers will loan out a tractor to some public event to, for example, pull a trailer collecting garbage. I am sure they do it as a marketing and good will gesture. Something like that could put 10 hrs on a tractor with almost no consequence.

If it has one, check out the loader bucket. Has it been repainted? Is it dented? If not there ain't much hard work that could have been done in those 10 hrs.

It might also be possible that the key got left on sometime or another, depending on the hourmeter that can rack hours up.

But, "one little scratch" sort of indicates useage.

Considering diesel tractors last thousands of hours I would still consider it brand new. My TC40D had 19 hours on the clock from people driving it around the lot before I got it. A few hours definitely isn't going to hurt you and shouldn't break a deal either.
