How lucky I am

Back in the late 80s maybe early 90's, a B24 AND a B17 flew
into the Boca Raton airport. The airport, like many in FL was
built during WWII. Now there is just the one runway at the
airfiled open to planes. The rest of the old airfield is the FAU
campus. Plenty of parking on all of those old long runways!

They mentioned when the planes would be taking off to go
on to their next stop so I drove down to an intersecting
runway/parking lot that was only a few 100 feet from the
takeoff position of the planes. It was awesome listening to
them power up those 4 engines and take off. Once both
planes where in the air the circled back and buzzed the field.

Absolutely Awesome. I have some pictures buried somwhere
of them flying. I have heard B52 and F4's flying at real low
altitude but there is just something about those old radial
engines. Awesome. I can't imagine what it must have been
like to look up and see 1000+ planes flying over your head
during WWII. If you where German/Italian/Japanese it must
have been horrifying. If you where in the Allied forces it must
have been inspiring....

Glad I could see 'em. Want to see more...

Later,
Dan
