I haven't posted in a while, but I read the forums daily. Hope everyone is doing well. I guess most of us are winding down from a busy summer. I've been busy trying to clean up an old overgrown field, and once that's done it'll be time to prune the blueberries and scuppernong vines. Hoping to get the field cleared so I can get some fruit trees planted.
Looking forward to some cool, dry fall weather, as well!

Running out of nice weather... Still much to do and never enough time

Looking forward to the cooler weather also, got 11 out of the 15 cords of firewood ready way ahead of schedule this year so there should be way more time for beer drinking this fall!

I'm jealous! I think I've only got about 4 split. Too many current projects and my back has been aching, but i really do need to get it done. Was hoping to have about 15 cords stacked myself...

At least I still have time, winter doesn't usually set in here til early-mid Dec

Well then you probably are going to be even more jealous then my wife has split all but 4 of those and my son did the other ones.
You see I had a heat attack on Aug 29, 2011 it was a widow maker as they say because there was no warning at all and if I hadn't been with people I wouldn't be here at all. When I was going through all of this all I was worried about was getting the wood ready for winter, and the original cardiologist said I could run the chain saw but to hold off with the splitting. Well after that year of splitting which the wife also did most of it the son did the rest, I changed cardiologists and this one still won't let me run the splitter. I have not and will not ever ask about the chainsaw ever again because I got permission once the wife heard it and I will not press my luck, and I sure as he*l will never tell the doctor that the chainsaw is way more strenuous than the splitter.
I know I can do the splitting not as fast or for as long of a period of time as I used to because I do get really tired a lot faster that I did, but I could do it. But in a way well what the heck someone has to drink the beer, it a thankless job but someone has to do it! :drink: Oh yea before someone asks, the wife does more that the boy because he doesn't even live in the same house anymore, so everything he does is an added bonus although I don't tell him that.

Well, except that I am old, fat and ugly - everything is Just Great! :)

Actually, things could hardly be better. I'm enjoying retirement and the change from computers to hobby farming. I have a beautiful wife, a 110 acres to play on, 5 dogs and a growing arsenal of toys. God has been so good to me even though I deserve nothing.

What I really need now is a set of house plans! We intend to build on the acreage next spring but I am absolutely clueless when I sit down to scratch out the basic design. You'd think this would be easy ...

I'm in the same boat with the house plan situation. I've been working on plans for the past couple of years. Every time I think I've got it nailed, I decide to change things up. Ended up getting the assistance of an architect. He really burst my bubble, when he reviewed my design. He thought my overall design was functional, however didn't like my roof design. (story and a half). His remarks were something like this "the roof appears to have came from the [roofs gone wild] video, and if money were no object, "Release the Kraken" !!! Strange sense of humor... oh well, back to the drawing board!

On my second weekend of vacation. I'm spending it doing fall prep. That's mowing and felling trees here in Texas. I plan to turn the garden over and maybe plant some grains. Ill have to disc with LS before switching to garden tractor to till. Tomorrow Ill be at the cattle auction then some seat time if my wife hasn't started already. Hope everyone else is enjoying the start of fall.
