Don't tell me to check the owners manual. I have a custom home made machine cobbled together from what I could find, no manual exists. You could call it a tractor, it's driveable, it can take attachments like a back hoe, but it's primary function is a log splitter. It's been working great for about 10 years now. If your interested in the machine, you can look at the links below.
My question is how hot can/should hydraulic oil get in a typical hydraulic application? My oil get's up to 220 after a few hours of working and I usually give the machine and me a break at that time. For engine oil you want to get the oil over 212 to boil out any water that has condensed in the system, but what's the rule for hydraulic oil? How hot is proper operating temp? How hot is getting too hot and time to shut down?
Thanks!
