how good is the 2008 JD 5103 mfwd?

im looking at a 5103 mfwd with a fel. just wandering if there have been many problems. i bought a mf 2625 mfwd with a fel and it was garbage. i got a mf 2605 2 wd and love it but the 2625 is worse than a farm pro.

I would search this thread and the John Deere threads to get other opinions on the 5103. When I was looking that is what I did and gained valuable information on several tractors. Just go up to Search this thread and type in 5103 and it will pull up all the threads for the 5103. That should help you get opinions from actual owners.

I have the JD 5203, same class as 5103 just more hp. So far, I like it very much and others who own these tractors seem to be pleased also, at least, based on what I have read.

I have a 2008 5303 -- The same as a 5103 with a few more squirrels.

Knowing everything I know now, I would buy the same tractor again without a second thought.

It's a very heavy, simple tractor. I liked it because of the following factors:

1. Proven wet sleeve 3 cyl
2. Turbo (I live at 6600' above sea)
3. Weight (about 1100 lbs heavier than the Kubota M5040)
4. Square fenders (no function -- just my goofy preference)
5. Planetary front hubs (again, just my preference)
6. And most important -- a decent dealer that is near by.

What I liked about the M5040 was the external rockshaft cylinders.

I've got a 2008 5103 2wd and love it. I'm at about 120 hours. It's a very capable tractor and I use it as much as I can. Ive got the 512 FEL on it. I've cleared fields of scrub cedar (juniper), I've dug many post holes, mowed you name it. My current crop of implements are 6' shredder, 6ft HD box blade, seed/fertilizer spreader, rock rake, hay spike. Will be looking at getting some hay production implements in the near future.

I have a 5203 MFWD with FEL that I purchased in 2007. It is a great basic tractor. I have had no problems with the tractor at all. I would be surprised if anyone has had an issue with the 5x03 tractors. I know that there has to be at least one lemon out there. I just haven't heard of one.

i had dealer bring out the 5103 with a loader to test. the only thing is it seems to be a little cold natured. they want 22,500 for a brand new 5103 mfwd with a jd fel. good price?

Right before I bought my 5203 slightly used, I was looking at a new 5103 4wd w/FEL at a dealer price of $23,200. The dealer is the son of a lifelong friend so I think he was quoting me close. Are you sure the 5103 is enough power. I finally shied away from the 5103 because I wanted more power; frankly, I now wish I had gone with the 5303.

I would say it's in the ballpark. Which FEL is on the tractor. If it comes with the 522 that is good and it is quick attach. If not it may not be quick attach.

512 FEL is permenant mount but so far I haven't seen a reason to remove it even if it was QA. I use it to much
I'll be using my 5103 (2wd) to do some hay on 15ac hopefully next year.
